winter tire use on stock wheels
winter tire use on stock wheels
good afternoon. after purchasing a set of new wheels and summer tires for my 2010 MCS I've been in the market for some winter tires for my stock wheels. I removed the TPMS units from the stock set up for the new set up. I found a good deal on a set of 215/55 R17 winter tires and i figured before it's too late i should snag them while i can. anyways, i don't plan on picking up another set of the TPMS units where i'll only be using these a few months out of the year. i was informed that's not an issue other then having the low tire pressure light on the guage appear at all times. my only concern is will i be able to run just a stand valve stem on the stock wheels or are they designed to run only TPMS valves?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

You may run into tire fitment issues with the 215/55/17 size. That tire is going to be 2" larger in diameter than the 205/45/17 that came from the factory. The tires may end up rubbing on the inner fenders when turning and your speedometer will be way out of whack. Stick with a stock size or 215/40, or 215/45 tires.
I am running a set of 15mm wheel spacers as well. I wasn't sure if I was going to keep them on during winter months but if I chose to that would probably help out with any rubbing issues right? I see a lot of people running several size tires not far off from what i'm thinking for a winter set up. I've even seen some with lowered suspensions. I would like to stick to the the OEM size but for the money the seller is willing to accept and the condition of the tires, i'd hate to miss out. I can deal with my speedo being off a bit.
Usually most people run a tire that's < .5" difference in overall diameter vs. stock. I just think the 2" difference you're going to have is way too extreme. That's an extra inch of tire sticking out all the way around. My 215/45's a slightly larger than stock, and I wouldn't want to go any bigger. How much money are we talking for a set of tires?
