Rota RB Hyper Black 17x7.5

Baby J, that looks good with the 215. I like the look without the caps In my opinion gives the Mini a more Modern Classic look; pulling mine off today . Orginally inspired by a pic that Sooper Cooper posted on 03-28-2011 is the vehicle stance and profile I’m looking for. Sooper Cooper is running Nitto NT05 235/40 17 but living in the northwest I went with a more all weather tire. Here are a few pics from the side.

Looks good just as it sits. I have some 17 Mini lites and want to go to 16 just to improve the ride. (My kidneys are being shaken loose)

Current (sorry for the cell phone pics -- I'll get some better ones tomorrow). BFG Comp 2 215/45/17::: I am not a fan of the center cap --- researching cap options that will fit. Any tips would be appreciated.

synopsis...

I've already ordered some 16s and these wheels and tires have been on the car for 3 hours haha. Not sure what fate these will have - they are ALMOST perfect - but 16s w/ the proper tire will give me the look I'm hunting.

I've got a great ride - not sure of your setup but it would pobably be better on your wallet and time to just get some good shocks in there.

Until I get the 16s on... I'm looking for a more aggressive look in the front - any tips or threads would be appreciated. The 04 base just looks "like a girl car" - LOL. I plan to remedy that.

Might try blacking out the chrome grill. I'm a real old school guy and used shiney electricians tape on my grille, vs plastic coat. Also some type bonnet stripe. Check my gallery. I have bonnet stripes and checkered roof

2004 MINI Cooper S with 17x7.5" Rota RB with some Hankook Ventus K110 in a 215 size. Non runflats plus lighter rims, huge improvement!

Does anyone have any pictures of the RBs with Oxygen Blue? Have a 2009 Classic and need to update the wheels and tires. Looking to increase to 16X7. Should I go with a +40 or +45 offset?

Also, what about the Slipstream? They are lighter than the Rbs.

Thanks

I'm surprised to say that can't find a single one. Is Oxygen Blue that rare?

In the 16x7 size it only comes in +40. That fits your car very nicely.

This is the RB wheel gallery thread. Let's keep the pics here on topic.

There is definitely the ability to go much lower on the coilover itself, however I think you will run into practical limits of tire vs. inner fender pretty soon.

I had some rubbing on all four corners prior to the alignment and camber adjustment. Right now it only rubs the fronts on the outer tip of the fender when you are really hooning on it in a corner.

^^^^Then you either need more camber, or your too low for your camber specs.

Its pretty good now with -2 degrees up front, though I think the difference between most people's setups and mine is the addition of the 12mm spacers on the front.

center caps

Question: Is it possible that the center cap from a different Rota model would fit in the RB? (or any other wheel really)

I'd like it if the center cap didn't stick out quite so much, I notice a lot of people simply leaving them off, but then you've just got a hole there where you can see the rusty hub in there....

Depending on when / where you buy your RBs, they came with different center caps. When I had mine installed, the tire shop broke one of my caps, so they ordered a replacement. The replacement cap was a different style, so they ordered a set of 4 caps, this time was yet another different style, much slimmer than the origionals.

Don't know if there's any way to specify specific caps, but I know different ones are out there that fit.

I have discovered that the caps from Rota Torque wheels fit. So, I may look at getting some of those.

2003 MCS Rota RB

Hi , Looking for a little inpute . I have a 2003 MCS British Racing Green . I am getting ready for wheels and have decided with the Rota RB . The only problem is you cant see the colors well online and I think I have narrowed it down to the Hyper black Or the Gunmetal grey. I guess what I'm asking is the two colors seem very close would one or the other either go better or clash ?
thanks

Are you looking at our web site? There are plenty of photos of both colors, and they are distinctive. Gunmetal is a gloss metallic deep brown color. Hyper black is a smokey silver with refractive properties that changes from black to silver with viewing angle.

This is gunmetal, over-exposed a little to show the metallic color:

On the first page of this thread check out the photo at the very bottom. You can really see the color differences there. I have gunmetal color, photo is in this thread on the page you posted. I really like the gunmetal color, it changes depending on the amount of light hitting them. At night they really pop with all the different colors of lighting in cities.

To be totally honest I can't tell the difference in pictures either. The 2 pics Dan posted above could very well be the same wheel taken under slightly different lighting as far as I can tell. So much so that I've been fooled into thinking I had the Hyper Black for the past year when in fact I have gunmetal (post#122). The tire shop I ordered them from swore to me that they ordered HB, and even had to re-order new center caps in (they say) HB. but just a couple weeks ago I finally saw someone else with the same wheels in what are truly Hyper Black. (this wheel is pretty rare here in AZ) and in person they are definitely different! Hyper Black are closer to what other manufacturers call black chrome.

Hey guys, I have a question too. I found a set of Rota rb gunmetal in atlanta. Do you think they will fit my 2002 mini cooper s? factory calipers. they are 16x8, the tires are Yokohama Advan Neova, 225/50R16. not sure of the offset yet. I wonder if they fit would they even look right? I'm keeping factory suspension height. Not changing it at all. Btw I have 205/50/17's r85 lights all the way around and have no trouble rubbing at all. I actually didn't even know they were not that factory size til i looked the other day. thanks.

I put 205 x 50 x17 on my roadster and I have a problem with the passenger side tire, rear, rubbing on the fender trim. Not much, and only on that side. My I tent ions are to put a stiffer adjustable rear sway bar on. Along with adjustable sway bar links, as well. That's my thoughts on the cure. I really like the looks of how this tire fills the wheel well, maybe too much , but I'm still going to stick with it.

As for 225 x 50 x 17, personally with my experience I think you might have fender trim problems. Unless you really pull those tires in. Just my thoughts.

Bill
