Winter Tire/Wheel Combo Help

Ok...First of all, I'm a complete noob at snow and ice, so this winter I will be learning how to drive in it. Second of all, I'm wondering if this combination will work. Right now I have a 2010 MCCS running the 16" bridge Spoke's with the stock brakes. So for those who have more skill in this matter than I, will this combo work:

Tire:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....toModel=Cooper S Clubman&autoModClar=

Wheel:
http://www.minimotoringgear.com/#/product/446/R114 - 17" John Cooper Works Cross Spoke?CenterId=null

Your help would be much appreciated.

I would say no.
Your first link leads to Bridgestone Blizzak in a 16" size.
The second to a wheel in 17" size.
But the Blizzak's in your link would fit on your current 16" Bridgespokes.

It looks like those Blizzaks are also available as 205/45R17, but I'm not sure those would work either; per the link, the wheel set comes w. 185/50R17 runflats -- would 205/45 be within tolerance?

I'd definitely recommend sticking with a 16" wheel for the winter, with a 195/55/16 tire. A narrower tire is generally better for winter traction, and the larger sidewall will give you a smoother ride and more protection from damaging a rim with the pothole ridden roads of winter.

I believe most, if not all MINI 16" will clear the brakes and fit your S. The dealer can confirm. Any particular reason you are only looking at MINI wheels? Tire Rack has tons of wheel choices for the MINI (they test the fit so if you select your model, it will show you only those that fit.) You can get a set of 4 wheels/tires mounted, balanced and shipped to you so you can swap them out yourself at the start/end of winter. They also offer the MINI TPMS sensors so you maintain tire pressure monitoring (some choose not to get this and deal with the tire pressure warning light being on in the winter).

You also have to choose runflat vs non-runflat tires. Some are afraid of non-runflats without a spare. I chose to get non-runflats are carry a tire plugging kit, compressor and slime as a last resort. With that and roadside assistance I have no worries. Runflats have a rougher ride, cost more, and are most places won't plug or patch so any damage and you have to replace. Since you have a Clubman, you can carry a spare and not have to worry (I have a coupe, so spare doesn't fit).

Take a look around Tire Rack, selecting your 2010 MINI Cluman S, and browse all the wheel and tire options you have.

Runflats in a winter tire aren't quite so awful. How well does a space saver spare work in snow?

195/55-16
Blizzak WS60 $106 (non-runflat)
Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D RunOnFlat $119
Michelin Primacy Alpin PA3 ZP $119

If you are considering investing in a good set of rims, I'd suggest getting whatever tires you want to use in the non-winter months on those and loading the snow tires on your stock rims... that's just me, though.

I got my Blizzaks (15") and winter wheels from Tirerack. The wheels were $65 each (three years ago). Obviously not a high-end wheel, but I prefer the look to steelies.

Or you could buy my 16" Bridge Spokes with Runflat Blizzaks already installed with the 2010 TPMS sensors! They only have 5000 miles on them. I bought my MINI last year when I was living in Colorado and moved back to California this year. They are just sitting in my garage and need to sell them. The rims have no scuffs or scratches and are in excellent shape. Lots of tread left on the Blizzaks too.

There's a MINI OEM company right by my house, so I'm going to check and see what they have tomorrow.
