Just wonder how many miles can I expect to get out of my stock 16" runflats. They're the ones that come with the sports package 5 star wheels. I don't do any track stuff just everyday commuting.

Thanks

It all depends on how you drive. If you don't corner too hard in street driving and keep the air pressure up and rotate your tires I would think they could last about 20,000 to 22,000+ miles. Some owners get less than 20,000 miles, it all depends. Those with lowered cars might be harder on the tires. Highway miles are easier on the tires.

Like hune says it really depends... I have only 13,000 miles on my stock Dunlop (dun-slop) 16" SP5000 runflats and they are getting pretty low on tread and a little squirly in the wet. I plan on replacing them in just a couple of months (probably after the Christmas shopping is out of the way). But I also drive pretty hard, when it's dry out I drive with the traction control off, plus I've done a few autocrosses on them.

We have 2 minis as company cars. They are both S models. One came with the Pirelli run flats and the one I drive had the Dunlop 9000 run flats. The Pirelli's were toast at 18k. The Dunlop 9000 were good until 36k. Yes, I said 36k. We replaced the Pirellis with Dunlops and they have lasted right at 36k as well.
Part of the key to long tire wair is tire management. Keep the air pressure constant and tire rotation. We rotate our tires every 5k-6k miles.

Hope this helps....

My driving habits have changed a bit since I got the MC. I definitly corner harder and at higher speeds. But all and all it's my everyday commuter car that sees more highway miles than city miles. I'm hoping to get at least 20-25k miles...which is about 2 years for me. Sure hope my factory runflats last that long.

This is a good example. The tire wear ratings are a rough estimate and partly based on the softness of the rubber compounds used. Definitely good air pressure and rotation helps as does good alignment and sensible driving habits.

The other consideration is that you do not really want to wear the tires down to being bald and in fact if you do hard cornering the performance of some tires will fall off considerably with even as little as about half of the tread being used up. Safety may be compromised in the same way and road noise might also increase as the tire ages.

Just try to get a reasonable amount of use and wear from your originals but the best part is when you do decide to change tires be sure to get good non runflats and that alone will be worth the change-they are so much better.

Many of us try to use up our runflats as quickly as possible as an excuse to get non runflats and a jump in performance and ride quality.

I have Dunlop 5000s on my 16" V-spokes.
I was close to requiring replacement the day before yesterday, at 25k miles.
Then came along another track day, and they are just about slicks now, so I need to get some new rubber asap!!! Total of two track days on the 5000s = 25 k mi.
I'd say each track day probably took off at least 5-7 k worth of miles, mostly off the front tires, so I would expect around 35k mi without track time.

I have a MC with the sport package. I got 26K out of mine. I should note that a bunch of the miles were long trips along the freeway (few turns/ no hard breaking). They likely could have gone another 3 or 4 K but with winter coming on I wanted better wet weather tires that also would be good of the light snow we get in an average Washington DC winter.

I opted for a set of Falken Ziex ZE 512 Tires (205/50/16) from R-speed. Consumer Reports rated this tire their #1 Performance All Season Tire. I do not expect them to hold the road as well the Goodyears as they are an all season tire. I like the ride and they are quieter than the Goodyears with 25 K on them.

Rotate the tires front to rear every 5K miles or so and with your driving habits you should be able to reach the same mileage figure (25k). I have been known to push the corners a little. The outside tread on either side was very worn - likely the cause of the tire noise. Over all I thought the stock tire was not that bad just expensive to replace and heavy for a performance tire.

I picked up my MC on 9/28/02

If you give me a MCS to drive I watch the tires on all the MINIs in the fleet.
