Max tire size?

I'm currently runnnig 215/45 17" tires on my R90 wheels. The wheel has a 7" width. I have JCW suspension so the ride height is only about 1/4" lower than stock.

There seems to be more choice in performance summer tires in 225/45 17" dimensions. Is anyone running tires this size on their MINI? Is it possible to run this size of tire on a 7" wheel or should I go up to 7.5"?

Your thoughts and experiences much appreciated!

See sig, that is on the stock S-lites, but that is also the stock ride height. I'll point out that I have never had any rubbing.

Keep in mind though that some tires "run wide", so just because mine fit doesnt mean the tire your looking at will fit as well.

At 225/45 you are running a much larger diameter than stock. A 225/35 would be more appropriate. I am currently running 215/40s to match the 205/45 stock spec.

Do a google for tire size calculator. Some great sites that will show the differences between sizes will come up.

Here is a good wheel size calculator. It allows you to put in sizes for two wheels and then compare them side by side:

Thanks, all. Usefull info. I had forgotten that the profile measurement is an aspect ratio %. Therefore a 45 profile on a 205 tire is a lower profile than 45 on a 225 tire.
