I no longer have runflats so I will be ordering a Cooper spare to cary behind the back seats of my S as I can't find a 3rd party compact spare that fits. Could somone with a Cooper let me know how big it is - especialy how wide the tread is. That will let me know how much space it will take up.

I called tire rack and they don't carry compact spare tires. They could sell me a 15" steel rim with a 185 width tire. I'd like to know if the MINI spare is any narrower before making a decision. Hopefully someone can quickly measure theirs to let me know. I'd go to the dealer to take a look if it wasn't a 3 hour drive away

 

I don't have a Cooper so I haven't seen the spare, but if it's like most other "donut" spares I've seen, it's going to be narrower than a 185 tire.

I'm also looking to get a spare for the winter when I switch over to non-runflat snows.

 

i carry fix-a-flat, road-side-assistance and a credit card
there's also a neat compact fix-a-flat/tire repair kit available (i believe it will fit in the small storage compartment in the back)

 

The spare tire size is 115/70/15. I just went out to the my garage and looked underneath.

I DO handle compact spare tires.
I DO NOT handle the compact spare wheels.

Keith, keep in mind that the rim that the spare tire is on could add some width (offset), so you might need to factor that in and allow for a little extra space.

 

No problem! I'm driving around right now with a full-size 17" wheel behind my seats - yes, it does fit! The compact spare has to be smaller.
