I understand that Alex our Forum sponsor is totally against putting anything on tires for aesthetic reasons, however, us in the tough-crowd of the real-world need something to put on the tires to counter yukkie browning or whatever.

I know this is cross-foruming, but I wanted to put this in wheel/tire so Alex would put his $0.02 into this topic.

Who uses tire gloss/shine products, what do you use, and how does it work for you? I've rarely used these products, so I have very limited experience. Meguire's endurance tire gel seems to be pretty good.

Cheers and slippery sidewalls to all,
Ryan

Ryan, I only use 303 aerospace protectant on mine to provide a satin sheen to my tires. I don't like the over-greasy look of the armor all, eagle one, or most of the other products out there. Mother's back to black isn't too bad though.

Definitely 303 for my baby!

Ryan,
I'm sure there are better products out there but I too use Meguire's Endurance.
Works pretty well.
I generally apply 2 coats 30 min apart then wait 30 min and remove excess with shop towel. This seems to give a decent gloss without being excessive. Also the Endurance seems to last longer than others I've tried.
Just another vote for Meguire's

Happy Motoring,
SW

I absolutely agree word-for-word with what you said, Pooky. I only use 303. I think shiny stuff looks straight ghetto!

I use Zaino Tire Gloss and protectant... it leaves a satin finish that lasts ages... keeps the brown away, but isn't showcar shiny by any means. Just be sure whatever you use, that it's dry before you drive off...otherwise you're slinging it onto your paint.

i use endurance, while the cheapest one will look good for 1-2 weeks, it will lose it quickly.

the meguiars endurance lasts at least a month, even in the rainy summer we've had on the east coast. it goes from a shiny gloss to a dull deep black, 303-like. I only apply endurance every 4-6 weeks.

I've used Turtle was's "Tire Wax" which leaves a decent shine, doesn't spin off, and lasts for a while. I prefer the 303 protectant.

1) Where did you find Stoner's tire stuff in Chicago? I haven't located it anywhere yet...

2) How long does it last? I'm liking the sound of this Endurance stuff that lasts for a month (!) considering that my 303 application lasts exactly as long as the weather stays dry...

I can't say enough positive things about the Zaino tire dressing. It provides a perfectly satin black finish and couldn't be easier to apply; wipe it on with a damp sponge and let it dry. No need to wipe afterwards. No tacky/sticky/shiny surface. It's also anti-static, so it doesn't attract dirt/dust.

I use it on all the black exterior plastic as well; bumber lips, arches, and rockers. If I apply it a little too far onto the tread of the tire, I do seem to get a little extra squeal out of the tires initially, but it scrubs off quickly. I'm also still running the Dunlop 5000 runflats which squeal like stuck pigs anyway.

Beware the cheap stuff, as it typically contains silicone, which contributes to the long term break-down of rubber and plastic. The Zaino stuff contains no silicone.

Cheers,

James

If you're worried about long term "break-down" you're not driving her hard enough.
Your treads should be WAY gone before you're worried about side walls!
As they say; "drive it like you stole it!!!"

I would begin by saying that tire dressing is a catch 22. You dress them, and they look great, but that will dull, and will fade brown and requires reapplication. Once you've used it you must continue or have mud colored tires, and no one likes that.

Why does this happen? Most products dry out the rubber, and draw its natural lubricating oils. Hence the rubber turns yucky and brown. This can promote premanture weather checking, and possibly dry rot.

The flipside is that some argue that " I have max performace tires, they will be gone in a year, so Why not"
- to each their own.

I have had experince with Meguire's gel, I liked it because it stays put. there is nothing worse than tire lube making dirt tracks on my wheels!

I personally use Stoner detail product (window cleaner and exterior trim shine) and love them .

(Hi Scott!)

---> Alex, the main reason I asked is because if you never use anything, the tire will turn brown anyway!
Is there any product that does not suck out the natural oils?

Ditto. It's cheap and readily available. I use a sponge to apply it, then a rag to wipe it off.

Hey, I checked and it's "Armor All", not "Armour All". After nearly 30 years, you'd think I could spell it. (Losing brain cells quickly now... must.. find... cure...)

I actually use an old wash mitt, with Meguire's hi tech car was - (same thing I wash my truck with) I have a hand held brush that looks like a carpet brush. I give my tires a fierce rub out with this brush while theyre still soapy and wet. Then hose off and dry. My tires on both vehcles stay black, it just takes elbo grease to do so.
