I'm going to be getting a set of Centerline RPM wheels - very very strong wheels and very stylish in my opinion...do a search on here or mini2 and you should find a pic of them on a MINI as several people are running them.

They are 17x7 4x100 offset of 42 and weight about 13 lbs.

The Tenzo-R RS5 wheels weigh 20.6 lbs each (HEAVY) and are Cast....some generally observations about cast wheels is that to get the same strength they have to be thicker...if you are planning on doing a big brake kit - in general but not always the case - cast wheels require spacers to fit where as forged wheels which are lighter and offer the same or better strength use less material thus thinner and easier to fit a big brake kit....just something to keep in mind if a big brake kit is in your future plan on the car.

I have the RS5 in silver.
the wieght for 16"=17 lbs
the weight for 17"=19 lbs
I spoke to the head sales mgr..who is sending me another set of center caps...caus he's a great guy.
Forged wheels are lighter for sure...and average about 2x's the price or more.
You make the choice w/ your dollars..

Peace,
D.

d-mini-ero - I failed to state that - thanks for chiming in - yes they typically do run about 2x the amount - some even 3x as much. The wheels I posted were around 300 bucks a wheel (no tires) as is about what you should expect to pay for a good forged wheel - if your spending 300 bucks on a cast wheel (i believe hamann wheels are cast - could someone please confirm?) then you are really wasting your money unless looks is the only thing you are concerned with.

The part I find funny though is people in general don't understand the performance gains from reducing weight on the car - and they spend 5k to beef up the engine and then toss on really really expensive heavy wheels....or they are willing to spend 100 bucks per hp to get those last few ponies but won't spend the money on a good set of wheels....the cost to benefit of a nice set of forged wheels is very good.

I started w/ stock s-lites at 25+lbs
Went to ROH...approx 21 lbs
Now Tenzo ...19lbs..

My RS5's cost 175 installed... which is a good buy

I was looking as RH...but they were close to 375 installed (13 lbs.... but tooo much money for me

BTW.....Hamans are in the 300+ category...

I have the re-mapped chip, pulley, exhaust, intake, swaybar...eieio
It's plenty fast and prob would be a bit faster w/ 13 lbs wheels... but...you have to make choices...

Peace,
D

i have to agree with what casey is saying!!!

moving from slites + runflats to volk te37s + yokohamas has made a huge difference. the car is much quicker of the line. i'm very precise with my clutchwork and the car requires a lot less clutch slip now to get going.

now one thing i need to point out, even if a wheel is forged that does not automatically mean it will fit something like a big brake kit. the Volk TE37 is known to be big-brake friendly because of how it is designed, but the Volk CE28N which is also forged and very light is known as big brake unfriendly because the internal clearance is not so good--again because of the design.

one thing that people are forgetting is that you can save a lot of money by buying wheels second hand. the volks in particular are popular with the Honda Civic crowd. I bought my 17inch TE37s with tires for $1400. which is not much more then a set of knockoffs + tires.

Just called Tire Rack:

and found out, they are 45mm offset, WHICH ROCKS, Now I can lower my car, and I can use my stock braking system on it.

Yes forged does not automatically mean big-brake friendly - i believe in my original post i said "in general but not always the case" - but there is a higher likely hood that they will be big brake friendly then a cast wheel.

mobygjc - yes that will work fine with stock brakes...the SSR's are good wheels - I've heard of alot of people bending the SSR Competions(Type-C) with low profile tires more so then with Volks or Centerlines...not sure how the GT1 compares in strength to the Competitions.

To beat a dead horse, all wheels can bend. The GT1 is 4.2 lbs heavier than SSR competition. In equal impact (the same pothole, and velocity) the GT1, due to sheer mass will be more likely to survived unscathed.

Don't misunderstand me, I LOVE Rays Technoligy wheels. They are the next step up, fiscally as well.

Alex

In this thread are some nice pics of Team Dynamics Pro Race in White. Nice.

I have centerline RPM in polished finish (about 15 pounds each in 17x7 size)- overall the sides of each of the spokes is not evenly finished-irregular and even dull in some areas- poor quality control- present on all rims. If you want the best look you might want to go with white, silver, anthracite or chrome.

Alex - i agree every wheel can bend - my personal experience and observations though seem to show that SSR comps tend to bend more often...or more often these are internet users who are more vocal or the fact that they are a very popular wheel and more people are using them thus reasonablly there is a higher chance someone will have a problem...but nonetheless I still here more problems with them then most other wheels.

Are the GT1 Wheels Forged in a simlar way to the Comps...correct me if i'm wrong here - but the mass will only help prevent bending if the mass greater in critical areas of the wheel - like the outside rim and that the process of forging or casting the wheels being compared is identical? A 14lb cast will most likely has a higher chance of bending then the same exact design in a 12lb forged wheel.

PS - I want the centerline wheels bad alex - please consider carrying these as I would prefer to buy them from the local MCO Tire expert and sponsor and I am sure others on here would as well....this would also include some of the volk wheels. I am assuming I already know your answer though  as it would be the same as for Toyo Tires and Falken Tires....nonetheless cheers bud and thanks for your help to the MCO community.

I carry a couple, and Tire Rack carries a couple that I don't that I like.

Here are just some suggestions:

Centerline RPM
$315 per wheel
42mm offset
17x7
13 lbs

Team Dynamics
$178 per wheel
45mm offset
17x7
15.5 lbs

Kosei K1
45mm
17x7.5
16.8 lbs

Hope that helps!

All of these will work with lowering springs.

Randy

I'm have the Team Dynamics. Not sure how the quality compares to some others mentioned, but the price and weights are low.

Pain in the A$$ to keep clean though

Can you fit your hand between the spokes to clean the inside of the Wheel on the Team Dynamics?

Hey--The cooper in the tread mentioned above is mine! Thanks for the compliments!

The TD Pro Race 1's are awesome! They are really strong and I love their simple look. I got the TD Pro Race 1's locally for $169. At the time, there was online places selling the WRX fitment for $149!? I suggest checking out the ads in the car mags as well as your local dealers and parts places--even Ralph Schomp MINI here in Denver can get them in now for cheap! They are a great wheel and very affordable!

cheers.
