General Exclaim UHP ride

I heard and read a lot of good stuff about these so I bought a set to go on my new Rota wheels. But something has got to be wrong with these tires.

I feel like I'm running over tiny little rumble strips everywhere I go. Too late to send them back...took me a week to get my wheels ready to mount, then I discovered I had bought a bent wheel, then I discovered my front wheels were out of balance. By the time I got everything worked out, my 30 day return period on the tires was up. I then hoped that the rumble would go away after they were broken in. Not so much.

Anybody else experience this? Ideas on something that might be correctable?

Thanks

Could it be a bad tire?
I don't have UHP's but it seems like good ride quality is one of the big selling points of this tire.

Maybe, I'll go by the shop that installed them (not sold them however) and see if they are willing to look.

I run these in the 215/45/17 and haven't had any problems. I have recommended them many times to others who are looking to replace their runflats.

Give us a little more info, and I'm sure someone will chime in with some suggestions.

What is the tire size?

Have you checked the air pressure in each tire?

Did the installer install hub centric rings on the new wheels?

Have you checked your lug bolts/nuts since having the new wheels installed?

Were the wheels new or used?

Stock, 205/45R17

Sadly, no...I dragged out my my pressure gauge and it was sticking, couldn't use it.

Yes

Yes

Were the wheels new or used?
3 were used, one new. One of the used ones was found to be bent by the installer, so I bought another new one. The other two used ones were deemed fine by the installer.

In my experience, the General UHP Exclaim is a comfortable, grippy and quiet tire. I've been running them for a year in (spirited) street driving, and I am delighted with their performance and minimal wear. No problems of any kind.

I am at a loss to fathom the issues you are experiencing. I would surmise that the problem comes from something other than the tires.

Several people in my local club run these tires and like 'em very much. I'd be willing to bet that something else is wrong.

I purchased a set 215/45-17 mounted and balanced and I could not be happier with the ride. Previously I had Yoko Prada2's that gave my mini a rougher ride than than the generals.

Very quite, smooth ride. I do mainly highway driving ~ 60miles per day.

Had a set on my GTO, and they were difficult for the shop to balance, but were fine once they got it.

Any solution yet? I have a few weeks on my General's and they are so superior to the run flats, quiet and comfortable.

We just put a set on my wife's Cadillac CTS and they are superior to the Goodyears she had previously.

Nothing but good to say here.

Love them for the price. They do get "loud" when pushed hard in the twistys, but are very predictable.

Sorry to hear that.
I run both my 18" 215/35/18 & 17" 215/45/17 never has any problem.
Excellent ride & handling, very quiet cornering & a lot cheaper compare to other big shots. And they look pretty too. So I think is just the tire you got has issue. Overall I rate them > 8. I will buy them again and I heard they last long also.

They are even cheaper than the Fusion HRi (Not the ZR) which is not even performance tire for my old Matrix (sold & bought my Mini). May be I went to a wrong place to get them....

Sorry...been off the grid a while (trip to Oklahoma and 1973).

I took the car back to the tire shop and found both back tires were overinflated. Feels better but not convinced as good as it should be. Been so long since I drove on my RF's that I can't compare them anymore.

Can anyone comment on how the Exclaim UHP handles in the rain?

Should be OK, but I want to confirm.

Here in central PA it rains more than anywhere else I have lived in the U.S., so I often have the opportunity to test the Exclaim UHP's in the wet. To date I have never experienced either hydroplaning or loss of traction during brisk cornering or braking. These tires are very secure-feeling on wet surfaces. I would rate them highly for wet traction.

+1

We have had a lot of rain this spring with standing water on major roadways - I have had my Exclaims up to 75mph through standing water and torrential downpours and have experienced no hydroplaning or any loss of traction or stability . . . . so far so good - wet traction was why I purchased them - can't keep my car clean though . . .

I have a set of the Exclaims in a 245 45 17 on my 04 Lincoln LS V8 Sport. I have nothing but great things to say about them. Excellent in the rain and in the dry. Last summer coming back from Pittsburg to Ny with my 18 year old daughter in the car I had a chance to drive at over 115 MPH with 3 other cars for over 45 minutes on a very open road with No traffic, My daughter slept as it was so quite and smooth, so again nothing but good things to say about them.

I got the Exclaim UHP 18" and I found it reacts very differently on different road surface. I took 4 different freeways on my daily commute. On the 605 and old section of 210, the tires are noisy making some rumbling sound. On the 57 and the brand new 22, the tires are really really quite and smooth. I don't feel the difference in the road surface in any of my other cars.

Just got my third set. Although this is the first set on my Mini. They are an outstanding value. Shop guy even commented on how easy they balanced and that the machine checks roundness and 3 where .005 and 1 was .006 which he said was excellent given tolerances of .265. Whatever that means. Very good in the rain and very quiet with great grip, not to mention the aggressive tread pattern. They are popular and sometimes hard to find in stock.

I'm looking at these tires to replace my runflats also. Is 215/50/16 good to use on the stock x-lite wheels? I know the sidewall is within 1mm of the stock.

Yes, it should fit the stock 16" rims fine. It weighs about one pound more than the 205/50-16 size which is more common. If you have stock suspension then either is fine.
