Goodyear Eagle F1 All Seasons
Goodyear Eagle F1 All Seasons
I currently have the OEM summer tires for my 07 MCS, Dunlop SP Sport 01 DSST, and need to replace them with with something that I can run the year round. My original plan was to buy a set winter tires and summer tires but due to saving to buy a house the funds have dried up.
I've narrowed down my search to the Goodyear Eagle F1 All Seasons...I'm wondering if anyone else has gone from the OEM Dunlops to the F1 All seasons, and how they compare in performance in dry and wet conditions. Are the F1's going to give me about the same grip and turn in?

Do a search and you will find that this subject has been discussed many times before:

and about All Season tire choices-

Also note that the GY eagle F1 All season has a stiff sidewall which can reduce street comfort a little.
I did a search after I posted and found most of links you provided. I guess today is backwards day.
I also found this thread which helps me confirm these tires are a good choice. I'd still like to hear comparisons of people going from the OEM Dunlap summers to the F1 All Seasons.

I just did it, albeit I'm running 16s. I had the Dunlop RFs on for 22K miles. I was happy with them as far as handling and steering response... I didn't know how much of the rough ride was tires and how much was MINI. Of course as the got down in tread, the wet capability went away completely...dangerous and the noise increased, then as the tread totally went away they got quieter.
I also read and searched and talked and bothered a bunch of people including Minihune, and Alex and my local tire dealers (the local tire people were totally worthless) and finally pulled the trigger on the GY E F1 A/S.
I was concerned about loosing the go kart steering. I went up on size in diameter and held the aspect ratio constant... the tire rev calculator says my choice is about a 1.5% larger tire. Which will give me a 1/5% longer gearing and theoretically better mileage and hurt my acceleration... which with gas prices as they are, I'm slowing down on the acceleration part a little bit.
I have found the steering response to be just as good as the originals and I am picky about noticing. The ride is a little more plush, but not smooth over tar strips and bridge abutments,,, about the same as the RFs, the noise is practically nonexistent... the wet weather driving is really nice. Deep puddles in your tire lane are just a visual thing now, a little noise change, but no cause for hanging onto the steering wheel in case the car jumps a little left or right. Of course the tread is new and deep.
I am very, very happy with my choice. The icing on the cake was when I finally went to Tirerack to place my order, there was a $50 rebate going on...
I would have been very upset if I had lost the quick steering by buying the wrong tires. I'm happy.

I put Eagle F1's on my Audi back home in NL, (255/40R18) and loved them to pieces. Made the car much nice to drive than the OEM's I had on at the time - let us know how you find them on the MINI, so I can stock up before I go home!

OK, let us know what you think and how you use your MINI.
Each driver is different and driving conditions vary.
Each tire is designed a certain way with the "ideal" target car in mind.
Keep in mind that the MINI (any MINI) is not your typical car. It's capable in stock form of running rings around nearly anything upgraded or not. Add decently good tires and you have enhanced the performance envelope.
I figure most owners are making use of about 35% of their tires' performance potential.
If you really enjoy having the tires then don't forget to look around for a performance driving school and get some instruction. There is much to learn.
To tell you the truth when I put on a good set of tires I can tell right away it's so much better whether for street comfort or for crisp handling. Brings tears to my eyes.
