Conversion R53 wheels to R56

How would one go about converting the 17''s from an R53 over to an R56? Different lugs?

Sorry, newbie question I'm sure.

I believe all you need to do is have the bolt holes drilled out to 14mm. But let someone else who knows what they are talking about confirm this.

OEM wheels or aftermarket?

if you wanna keep the TPMS then you'll have to make sure there is a flat spot behind the valve stem in order to mount the monitors properly

All of the *factory* MINI wheels, from all years, will work with either 14mm or 12mm bolts.

Many *aftermarket* wheels will not work with 14mm lug bolts - you'll either need to drill out the bolt holes or go with a stud conversion kit on the car.

I haven't heard anyone say whether the earlier factory wheels pose a problem for the TPMS sensors or not.

So I can keep my winter tires on my R53 X-lites for my new R56?

Thanks.

Can someone confirm or deny that R84 X-lites will work on a R56? I thought that I have read elsewhere that they do not fit on the R56, at least the MCS. I really like these wheels and haven't seen a copy in the aftermarket. I really like the shape as well as the center caps that cover the lugs. Not to hijack, but is there a similar aftermarket wheel if the answer is no? 17" would be preferable too.

Just put a set of R53 17" wheels on my 2007 MCS and its a bolt on. Getting TPMS mounted was whole 'nuther story but the 2005 rims I started with have the flat spot for the TPMS valve stem to mount against.

I ran a GP for a while with a set of R84 wheels. About a 1/4 inch of clearance on the JCW front rotors. No problems.

Check post number 13 for picture. I know someone will say it can't be done, so take a look.
