Front brake pads. How long do they last?

26K and I'm starting to notice a slightly lower pedal. How long to the OE brake pads tend to last? (I'm a late braker... )

I have 35K mi and about 1/2 of the original pad left...
But then again, I drive 100/day, most of which is on the highway, and almost never touch the brakes for 90 mi of that commute...

Look through the wheel spokes at the brake... if the backing plate is the same thickness or thicker than the brake material left, its time to change the pads.

HTH.

I got about 40,000 out my first set, and front & back went bad around the same time. I drive pretty hard, but have a bit of a downshifting habit that I need to break. I always try to see how little I can brake, and quite frankly would rather replace brakes than a clutch.

Normal driving mine are lasting about 40,000 miles. Hard driving and your milage will go down. Lots of highway and it will go up.

But for me I changed Artoo's pads and rotors at 35,000 under the maintenance warranty and they were fine. I checked them last weekend at 75,000 and decided to wait until spring to change them again.

If you are low on brake fluid, you may want to change to ATE Super Blue Brake Fluid. 100% synthetic fluid is specifically designed to resist the high temperatures of racing brakes and clutch systems.

So, what is the recommended replacement interval?

My '07 MCS is in the shop now for it's 1-year/15,000 mile check/oil change, etc. and they called to tell me they are replacing the "brakes" since it is so close to the recommended time anyway and since I live in another state.

Do the pads wear out that fast? I had not been having any trouble with the brakes, and do not drive aggressively.

I was told mine will wear out at ~20k in the front, 25-30k in the rear.

I'm over 62,000 miles with all the original brake parts still on my 04 MCS. Clearly I've spent most of those miles commuting on the highway, not carving canyons.

I never used mine, at about 10k miles I pulled them off with little to no wear and put on a set of Mintex 1144 pads. A trackday and 9k miles later, those were shot, so I now have a set of Mintex Xtreme pads, they're at about 50% with a trackday and 6-7k miles on them, so seems like they're working well :-)

Ceramic recommended by BMW??

Replaced my MCS front pads at 70k but the rear went just out of warranty at about 45k.

Question. I looked on the Tirerack site today and they say the manufacturer recommends ceramic pads for the 03 MCS! Any truth to that? I haven't seen anything else that said ceramics were recommended. I replaced mine with regular semi metalic pads and they seem to work fine.
