Hoosier A6 vs R6

Can someone please explain the difference between the 2? I am looking for a decent track tire that may also see some occasional road use.

Thanks!

R's are for track days. The A's are for autoX. Niether is OK for street use of any kind except maybe back to the hotel your staying at if it's close. I do use them back and forth to the hotel, but I wouldn't use them on the street.
See what others say.

As newbs said, the A compound is a autocross compound, the won't hold up to the temperatures from track days for very long. If you are just looking for a decent track day tire, and something that you might be able to put a few street miles on (but not a day to day tire) something like the Toyo RA-1 or Nitto NT-01 might be what you are looking for. Either of these tires are going to hold up a lot longer than either offering from Hoosier.

Thanks for the input, basically what I am looking for is a track tire that I can use when going on spirited runs with the MINI club and track days, I have used Toyo RA1's and they were great! What I am not looking for is a tire that takes a long time to warm up.

Does this make sense?I dont care about longetivity, just want something fun, something that I can put on on the weekends. I have used tires that were "good" but took too long to get up to temperature therefore they SUCKED when on the street unless I drove them hard for a while. Does such a tire exist?

Thanks!

The A6 compound will heat up very fast, but you can easily overheat them on anything longer than a typical 60 second AutoX course. An overheated tire will be just as bad as a cold tire. The R6 takes longer to warm up, but it can withstand the heat of longer sessions better and will wear longer. You could look at the Kumho Victoracers, but they will be comparable to the R6.

Any of the "good" tires are probably not going to warm up fast enough for you with just street driving. It sounds like you need to find a nearby track that you can take your car to properly and safely do some spirited driving.
