I too would like to know. I'm debating between these, faulken 615s and bridgestone RE-01Rs for my summer tires next year.

My understanding is that the 'stones have a much softer sidewall than the Azenis - more of a street than competition carcass design. I'm assuming that the Z1s are similar to the 615s, but we'll see.

If you want good stick with street comfort, don't mind something less than the very sharpest turn in and road feel, and have the $$, the RE01R sounds like great tire. Well loved by the Evo/STi crowd.

I'm looking for something that can be driven daily but autocrossed on the weekend (until I can get a dedicated set of wheels) and will give me no problems on the Dragon (twice a year). My Ziex 512s are good for daily driving and slightly aggressive street, but struggle a bit in autox and the dragon; I know there's something better out there.

Comfort is of no concern. I'm riding Koni Yellows on Hsport springs with really fat swaybars

Dood, the Ziex 512s are an AS tire with a 400+ treadwear rating. Totally different beast.

That's why I'll be replacing them now that I can afford to have a summer/winter set

I've driven on all 3 in similarly prepped BMW 3-series on the AX course in the same day... The RT-615 is a great tire, but the RE-01R is stickier and has crisper turn in. The RE-01R is definitely a faster tire for AX and the track. The Dunlop Z1 is not as sticky as either, but it's not a bad tire, either. It's uber-predictable. It reminded me a lot of the Kumho MX, 'cept better.

I DO like the fact that Dunlop's said they're going to make some better MINI sizes - in fact, at SEMA they had a 225/45R16 on display and made mention of some other attractive sizes.

IMHO, the street-class AX tire running order is still something like RE-01R and Yoko ADVAN AD07 (tied), then RT-615's, then Hankook RS-2's and then everything else follows...

Dunlop's actually doing a tire test here locally right now - they shelled out some 10 sets of Z1's on OEM BMW wheels for our local BMW club members to try out. The vast majority of them track or autocross - their feedback to date has been that they work well on the track, but they miss their RE-01R's or AD07's for AX work... They like them on the street.

Wow, thanks for the feedback! It really helped alot. After looking at the cost I may end up having to go with 615s. RE01s are way more for the size I need

I looked at some yoko A032Rs for autox on a dedicated set of wheels later. How are those?

The A032R's are an old, old tire... IMHO, there are better choices in the 2nd tier r-comp class - namely, the Toyo RA-1 or the new R888. The benefit of the RA-1 is that they last for freakin' EVER! And, the price is hard to beat.

Top tier r-comps are more - but they're even stickier. V710's, Hoosier A6's, BFG R1's are all good choices in that segment. IMHO, the V710's work really, really well on the MINI - but, we're about to check out the R1's.

Txwerks is correct about the Yoko A032R old tire, but it was replaced by the A048 which comes in two different compounds.

Medium Compound for for Semi Wet, Low Temp, and Medium Temp driving conditions.

Medium Hard Compound - Medium Temp, High Temp, and Practice driving conditions.

The A048 is DOT approved with only a 60 UTQG doesn't last long but gets you around the track quick. Not recommended for daily driving. The tire looks like a huge motorcycle tire with a rounded casing that is designed for quick and easy transitions from straight line sprints to high speed cornering.

The entire tread surface is one continous tread block, which increases stiffness, enhances cornering and optimizes power transitions during acceleration and braking. This continuous design ensures constant contact with the road delivering a better "on center" feel and responsive steering.

Think they'll make a 205/50-15?

Dunno... Sure wish they'd release all their sizes, though!

The brochure we got at SEMA last year made mention of lots of great MINI-friendly sizes. I'll see if I can find it...

Good info, Thanks! I figured the A048 was a replacement after I couldn't find the 32 anywhere else. Is UTQG the wear rating? meaning it would be 60? To stay in STS in autocross I need a wear rating of 140. Damn
