What's the width on those OZ's?

i'm runnin 215/45 on my konigs, and I think the tires are slightly too wide for them. Granted, they are dunlop SP Sportmaxx, so they're a bit wider than other 215's, but still.

and i love the drop in weight, my konigs were 14.5lbs.

oh sorry, I wasn't sure what you meant. The width on the OZ's are 17x7.

I currently run 17x7 Team D 1.2s with 215/45/17 and have no issues at the stock height with rubbing or anything. I also suspect when I drop it, which is only 1.18inches all the way around, that I will be fine to continue running 215's, thats why I bought them. Where you running 225 dwf?

na, i'm still on 215's, but i hear that the sp sportmaxx's run a bit wider then other 215 tires.

It still looks great, it's just that my tires are clearly wider then my 7" wide konigs...

the +40 offset makes everything line up perfectly. now i gotta get some mudflaps.

Attn Konky,

Really dig the Schmidt Racelites that your running

Thinking of getting set for mine

When I google Schmidt Wheels all I get is a outfit out of Vegas called Tunershop that has not responded to email or voice messages. I went so far as to email their UK site.

Where did u get yours?

Thanks

Yeah, mud flaps are deff needed. I get dirt, rocks, and mud kick up all the time, my wheels are at 45 offset right now.

yea, i washed yesterday, and had all sorts of road tar all over my doors.

gotta break out the claybar soon. I'll be down at the dealer getting my windows re-programmed monday, I may just have them install the flaps there, since I don't have a drill to work in tight spaces, and don't have jack stands to put the car on to remove the wheel to screw the mudflaps in....

I don't think they're in production anymore, but don't quote me on that.

I got mine from a company in Ireland, that had them listed on ebay Ireland, years ago. Only other place I saw them actually for sale in the states was NGP racing. you could always try searching them on google and sending a message to see if they have any in stock.

I actually heard from the guy in Vegas and they have them in Stock. We swapped emails and he mentioned that I will need 10MM spacers. Not a big deal

I am talking to two local shops to do the install and one of them went on about if I am putting on new after market wheels with spacers that I better change out the control arms, etc, etc. BEFORE I put on the wheels due to the weight of the wheels....sounds kinda screwy as I understand the Mini stock wheels (which I got) are not that light to begin with.

I was planning to eventually change out control arms

Anybody out there run across this when changing out to new wheels?

Hey, I'm not a specialist when it comes to suspension, but I'm pretty sure you do not NEED new control arms/stronger ones when putting aftermarket wheels on. I don't believe the wheels would be that heavy/have that much effect. Many of the wheel shops say random things, I say that but i am not hating on the shop that said that.

See what others have to say about this, but I'm pretty sure you would be fine without new CAs. However, with 10mm spacers you might need longer lug nuts. I'm not sure how big of spacers one would go with stock lug nuts.

Most of this conversation should take place in PM, but I'll offer a few quick answers.

No, you do not NEED new control arms to run aftermarket wheels. There are plenty of MINI owners that are stretching the limits of wheel fit that have only changed wheels/tires.

Some of the things you WILL need to consider are wheel offset, whether you will need to use spacers to fit over brake kits/clear suspension/adjust wheel offset, bolt pattern & size (12mm for the R50/52/53 or 14mm for the R55/56/late R53 & 4x100 pattern), & whether they are hubcentric (MINI has 56.1mm hubs) or can be adapted with hubcentric rings. After you have all that figured out you'll need to determine what will fit in your wheel well with or without modification (trimming wheel arches, removing fender liners, camber additions, stretched tires, etc...). The farther you stray from OEM specs the more closely you'll have to consider all of these factors.

I'd recommend you start by looking to see if the setup you want has been run before and what it took to run it successfully. If you have a set of the wheels to test fit that makes it much easier too. Prior planning and research can save you lots of expense, time and trouble.

BTW, if you don't have the stones for this kind of modification than stick to stock sizing and enjoy your MINI as is.

Thanks Mini Fireman

The guy I am talking to at TunerShop sent me a subsequent email that yes I need 10mm spacers and lug bolts for these particular wheels. Seems like he has worked with Mini's before as he noted that these spacers are needed specifically upfront but makes sense to do all 4 and the spacers will get the wheels flush with the fenders which is what I want

Think the guy at NTB was blowing wind with talking about control arms and the rest of the suspension needing to upgrade first. He maybe cheaper than the local shop but local shop seems to be more capable. For $10 more per tire seems a good choice

Thanks for all the help guys, will post pic's when done
