Alex,

First off - thanks for the posting the tire and wheel weights, it is an excellent reference.

I am ready to order my tires from you guys via your internet site but wanted to confirm the tire weights for PZero Neros on two different size set-ups.

I originally wanted to go "plus 1" from my 2003 Mini Cooper S set-up of 205/45 -17, however, I was under the impression that the 18 inchers would kill me with added weight. I wanted the SSR GT1 w/PZero Nero 215/35 -18. Another set-up I was going to default to was the SSR GT1 w/PZero Nero 215/40 - 17 (I think it's called "plus 0&quot.

I was just looking at your "weights" guides and see that the 18 inch tires I want may be lighter than the 17 inch tires I would get instead (18.6 lbs -vs- 22 lbs) - is this correct? It seems that the 18 inch GT1s are 17 lbs. and the 17 inch ones are 16.5 lbs. That would mean, in essence, the 18 inch set-up weighs a total of 142.4 lbs and the 17 inch set-up is 152.4 lbs!

Please confirm and/or clarify. I realize the 18 set-up will give me a harsher ride but I think it may look sharper and a 10 lbs savings is nice too !

Thanks ahead of time for the clarification,
Dirk

We use the tire manufacture spec's on tire weight. This leaves margin for error. I am weighing it for you.

Alex,

Thanks for taking the time and weighing the tire. 20 lbs! Impressive.

I have follwed the thread on the S03 and liked your insightly comments on the tire (along with the comments on the KDWs). From Tiretrack's testing results it seems the PZero Nero holds its own against the S03. What do you think? Should I go for lighter PZero Nero (assuming they are just or almost as good as S03) or just stick with the King (S03)?

What's your thought on 17 -vs- 18 for the Cooper S?

Thanks again, and any additional comments would be appreciated.

Dirk

Depends on how your drive - if you push the limits, run S-03. If your agressive but not too agrerssive, Nero would probably suit you well. Nero has a bit nicer road mannors (quieter and smoother).

17's are lighter, and you have better Max perfomance tire choices in 17.
18's are more dramatic appearance wise.

Its Show vs Go. They both posses each trait, just a diffrent balance.

Alex,

Thanks for taking the time and clarifying and checking on things.

I will throw this around in my head and decide between the 17s and 18s and order tomorrow.

Alex,

Thanks for all of your help/information. I just ordered my tires/wheels from you guys.

I ended-up going 17 inches. Went with the SSR GT1 with Bridgestone S03 (215/40-17). I originally (as the question for this thread was) wanted the Pirreli PZero Nero but kept reading how you liked the S03s, and what got me was your explanation that wet grip throughout tread wear would be pretty good on S03.

Alex,

Your customer service gave me a heads-up on my tire choice and recommended 215/45-17 over the 215/40-17. I agreed and they said they would ship out of Nevada for Southern California tomorrow. Man! Talk about quick and looking after the customer!

Thanks TIRE RACK!
