15x7.5 Slipstreams on 07 MCS

Hi,

I ordered some 15x7.5 Rota Slipstream with a 40 offset for my 07 MCS. I fit them up without tires on. They cleared the caliphers just fine on the front and I had more than a finger width between the edge of the rim and the strut. I was planning on putting 205/55/15's on the rims and I think they would have cleared. I do not think I could go any wider on the tires with these wheels.

Unfortunately when I fit them up to the back the very lower part of the control arm rubs on the inner rim so that it won't rotate. I don't want to use spacers and I don't think I'd get enough clearance by taking my grinder to the arm. The new rims provide 5mm less inner clearance than the stock 16x6.5 with a 48 offset. The stock 16 inch rims appear to let the arm ride within their greater circumference. I don't think that the 5mm greater clearance alone provides enough clearance on its own.

I could drop down to 15x7 40 offset rims and pick up 2mm additional clearance over the stock rims or go to 35 offset and pick up 7mm clearance over stock, but I don't know if that is enough.

I welcome your thoughts and advice.

Thanks,

Mark

I have 15x7 with +37mm offset and it works fine on 2003 MCS with coilovers.

I have 15x8 with +36mm offset and it clears the fronts OK but in the rear rubs against the lower trailing arm so I added 3mm spacers and it fits OK.
Front 15x8 +40mm offset will work but not for the back.

If you use 15x7 and +35mm offset it should work but don't make the tires too tall or you can rub the inner rear wheel arches. Keep outer tire diameter to about 24" or less. For 15" wheels I run 22.8".

Thanks

Thanks as usual for the good, real world advice. I really like the 7.5 inch wide rims and 18 racing thought they would fit. They came damn close, but no cigar! I'm thinking I'll drop down to 7 inch with a 35 offset. I don't like to hassle with spacers and the 7.5 s are sticking out on the back at the edge of my tolerance right now so I don't want to move them out farther. I'll do some autocrossing on street tires, I'm thinking 205/55/15 KDW G-Forces, which have a diameter of 24.1. My second choice would be G-Force Sports with a diameter of 23.9. I think I'll try to borrow so spacers from a buddy and see if a 3 or 5mm spacer would clear up the clearance problems before I swap out the wheels.

Thanks again,

Mark

Just swap out the arms for some lighter, stronger, less bulky ones-

So, does anyone (Minihune) know if 15 x 7 Kosei K1 TS's with 225/50/15 R-compounds (23.6" diameter) will fit a stock ride height 2007 MCS without any spacers?

I'm open to any 15 x 7 wheel that is not too expensive (Rotas would be great!)-I just read the Koseis fit over the 2007 MCS brakes.

Please help-I need a very sticky/light track set-up

Thanks

Yes, it will fit ok with no rubbing but normally with 15x7 rims you'd want wide and smaller tire diameter. 205/50-15 or 225/45-15 are both small and will fit 15x7 rims.

What are you going to use these tires for? Track, lapping, HPDE, autocross?
R compounds are not for street use- you'll wear them out.

225/50-15 can be used especially with a later model MCS like 2005 that already has good gearing. Earlier MCS have gears that are too tall so smaller diameter tires work well and they tend to be lighter too.

Which tire did you have in mind?

and
Toyo Ra1 in 225/45-15 is good for track and lapping sessions

The new BF Goodrich R1s-I've heard excellent things from friends who are using them over Hoosier R6s.

Oh, I will be using them at the track for fun/testing this year and NASA Time Trials next season.

Thanks for your help!

Aftermarket control arms - Good idea

Sandtoast 500,

Are you positive this will work? If so I think control arms are the way to go.

Thanks,

Mark

Not 100%, but I've had my rear lower arms done and when you get the stock and aftermarket parts side by side, the difference is great. The stock arms are stamped and welded, making them big and bulky, especially around the ends. If you're looking for a millimeter or two, that's where you'll get it. Talk to someone at a performance shop (webb, helix, detroit, etc.) to get a professional opinion. Good luck,
