Ireland Engineering rear sway bar

Has anyone installed this bar? I like the fact that it comes with new drop links, but am unsure about the effective rate of the hollow bar.

H-sport bars a hollow. Give them a call and get the ratings. Then tell them to post the rates on their website.

I have this bar...

It has been on my car for almost a year now. Love it! I did have to add tie wraps to the lower part of the end links to eliminate the noise they were causing at low speeds, but otherwise it is a great product.

Good Luck,
Mike

Mike, do you have any info on what the equivalent size would be in a solid bar? Is the bar marked on the ends to help with the drop link settings?

There are no markings on the end of the bar. I use a small (6") scale to make the end links the same.

I do not have the info on the equivalent size with me, but I have a hollow bar on the front of my BMW 2002 also from Ireland that is a 22mm and they say it is equivalent to a 25mm solid bar.

I will find the information on the size and post it.

Regards,
Mike

FYI

I just got a note from Jeff Ireland and he states the bar is equivelent to a solid 23mm.

If this bar is equivalent to a 23mm solid bar, that's probably stiffer than I need for daily driving and a few autocross sessions per month, but I *really* like the price - at $189, that's like getting the adjustable droplinks for free!

Since the droplink-to-swaybar connection point is continously variable, rather than having two or three holes, do you think I could "soften up" the bar by positioning the droplinks close to the end of the bar? Or would it likely still be too stiff for an everyday driver?

Thanks,

Not sure about this. I haven't installed it as yet, and I will be using the softest setting to start with myself.

As soon as the install is done I will post a review.

When the bar is installed can you post some pics with you review.

Plus I'd really like to know if this bar produces any noise at all.
Thanks

Here is a pic of just the drop link before installation.....

My guess is that this is going to be noisier than stock because of the heim joints. I will definitely have some pics of the install with my review post.

Hiems should not be noisy, yet they do transfer road noise. If you have Hiems that make noise then something is not right with them.
That Ierland bar looks quite good and I would think that it can be made as soft as a 19 on it's softest setting.
I like the Ierland stuff for hard core, but not sure about daily street driven cars.

From the looks of the drop links I take it that the bar is not knurled like the WMS bar. I'm wondering about the droplinks moving on the bar or bar twist from one side or the other.

Last weekend I was at Ireland Engineering and I asked Jeff Ireland about the drop links and he said "they don't move" [on the bar].

I just got mine installed and it performs as all do.....very well over stock. The drop links are a bit noisier than stock, but so far I am very impressed with the set-up.

The only thing I noticed is the clearance of the drop links at the softest setting. It looks like the bar is a bit longer than stock and when the drop links are set at the softest setting (end of bar) you can get a bit of rubbing against the lower arm. You can either set the bar a bit stiffer (what I did) or provide a bit of clearancing on the arm. I haven't had a chance to really test out my suspension mods yet, but my impressions so far are that the car has gotten a whole lot more stable in all aspects. I love the way the car just stays hooked up all the way around a corner. I have a 300 degree on ramp that before my mods I could take at about 50 mph max before the mods. I have added at least 10 mph to that speed now.

I am very pleased with the ride quality and responsiveness and would recommend these parts to anyone.

So anyone know the %-age increase over stock in stiffness? Or weight? Just want to compare to H-sport comp, I'm considering both bars.

I have had this bar on my car fro at least a year. It seems to work well and I have it set about the middle. Definite improvemnt over stock.

I do notice some low speed noise though (nothing horrible, but it is there). I have hose washers installed on either side of the heim joint which helps some. What was the deal with the zip ties Mike87?

Did the install a few weeks ago... But the car just came out of storage yesterday.

Impression: Great design. Infinitely variable so don't be misled by diameter. The structural quality is very good. The cometic quality was sub-par since the finish had a 1x.5 gap at one of the bends and there were other cometic defects, I fixxed these with touch up. Personaly I could care less, no one sees it and it doesn't affect performance. The install took about 1hr; and make sure you have rotation/play in joints for your links before you raise the victory flag. I also put bar plugs from a MTB hanblebar in the ends so water and Sh*# doesn't get in.

Of the multitude of bars I have had in different vehicles, this one impresses the most.

As for stifness, nothing excessive in the oversteer department even when you lift... (I do have a motorsport adjustable wing that is set to provide rear downforce, so results may vary) All said, it seems to compliment my set up perfectly.

Ireland rear sway bar

I installed mine today - 22mm hollow. Lots of improvement on the car. It is more planted and predictable, it drifts even and smooth and LOTS LESS twitchy, control it with throthle all the way. I love it and recommend.
