The front of my car started rattling and I looked to find the threaded part of the Alta droplink snapped in half. Is it safe to drive until a new part arrives? I suppose I could try to fit the stock link on the car for now.

 

You are probably not going to hurt anything on your car like this, as long as the broken drop link is removed or tied up out of the way of other parts. I would be concerned about the handling of the car though. With no front sway bar hooked up, and the rear still working properly your car may become VERY oversteer prone....I've never driven with my front bar disconnected, but the car may become very very tail happy like this if you push it hard or have to make any emergency manuvers.

Oh...so you have one too! I have been driving on my busted passenger one for a couple of months now. Good to hear I'm not the only one. I have replacement heim joints from a 4-wheeler shop since the vendor nor ALTA replies to my questions on the board nor returns my phone calls.

 

Just watch out. I didnt tie mine back at first and it bound up when I was traversing the driveway. Made a huge clunk and scared the pee out of me.

 

Is your car lowered? If so, you must lengthen the front link by the amount of drop.
I've given up on the Alta links and have decided to make my own. I have all of the parts collected, just need to do some measuring then get them welded up. Stay tuned.

Let me get it right, your front Alta drop link broke in half, or was it your rear Alta drop link but you just noticed the noise in the front of your car?

 

My front link broke. It didn't break in half, the threaded part that turns into the link snapped. And it was properly adjusted for the lowering springs.

I was thinking I would call Alta today and they would rush out a replacement part. Sounds like they're not as easy to deal with?

 

According to Alta they will service anyone even if you bought the part from one of their distributors.

 

I bought mine from Atlantic British Ltd. and they will have a new PAIR in the mail TODAY. Great service.

 

They will....huh? Not by my experiences.

 

Mine was through JSCSpeed. You got a replacement?........

 

According to a recent post in the Alta Q&A thread they said they will.

 

I did. The only bad part is they want me to replace both links and send them both back. I would rather just swap the little part that broke, but can't really complain.

Same thing happened to me. Alta hooked me up with replacement heim joints at nominal cost. I ran the OEM links until they arrived. I didn't find them hard to deal with. If they are too busy to return your calls, perhaps you could keep calling until you get a person? Worked for me.
