Considering JCW-install as bargaining tool on 05 MCS

I will shortly be ordering an 05 MCS and am considering ordering the JCW suspension and having the dealer install it for free as part of the purchase. The attraction of the JCW setup is the possible free install and accompanying warranty.

Question: How does this setup compare to the aftermarket options out there? While I realize there is no adjustability on the JCW kit, is it at least fairly stiff, improving turn-in and body roll resistance considerably? (I would be adding, at the very least, a beefy rear sway bar anyway)

I thought about that myself. My MA informed me that it is very difficult to get just part of the JCW package because of the additional parts and requirements for each item. I will be curious to see how this works out .

The install calls for ~5 hours of labor. No dealer in Georgia will give that up, but maybe your dealer is different. As for warranty, I'm not sure that's vitally important when dealing with springs/dampers. In 26 years of driving, I've never had a warranty claim on any suspension parts.

There is a very good write-up, with driving impressions, on the motoringfile site.

Exactly, before you enter the accessories area of the MINI site a warning box pops up and tells you that the prices are suggested prices and do not include installation costs.

I am aware that the installation is not free; you're misunderstanding my post.

I am playing several Mini dealers against each other in order to get the free installation. Since the vehicles themselves sell at MSRP, there are other ways to negotiate a deal on a new Mini. Some dealers will throw in some accessories. However, a more effective incentive for both buyer and seller is service bay installation time because it costs them less than freebie parts.

Make sense?

You're a crafty one, markbradford! I don't know a lot about the JCW suspenion, but based on what I know about the other JCW offerings, it will be very nicely done. I would expect it to be effective but refined. If the install charges are waived, the parts costs may be attractive enough. I'd say go for it.

I understand you now. I wasn't able to get free install but I got my accessories and install at cost. Saved a ton of $ $

Just signed a contract. =)

Dealer's going to cover half the install; my portion is $300. Not too bad. I'd do it myself but I want the warranty. I haven't had a warranty for so long in my A4 I think I'm going to do all I can to enjoy it for a while in the Mini.

05 MCS, manual, LSD, DS, grey/black leatherette, anthracite dash, sport, cold, premium, chrome interior, chrono package, rear fog,
