Who is making a rear bar for the new Clubman?

 

More importantly about this heavyweight car
Will the stock bar differ from the f56
Is it thicker and will it fit a f56

 

If it would fit the F-series hatches then I could use one of the bars for the hatches. I presume that with the different platform for the new Clubbie, it would take a different bar. Perhaps I made a bad assumption. Anyone Know? (Ryan?)

 

The Clubman is much wider than the F56 and indeed, the part numbers are different, so it's safe to assume they are not interchangeable.

I have not seen any performance parts for the F54 specifically yet. Being a new car it may be a few months.

 

It is confirmed that the Clubman (2016) takes a different bar from any other (as of yet) MINI rear bar. At least one company is planning to make a rear bar for the application. So, we will continue to wait. When I hear of an available bar, I will post the news.

NM Engineering has finally produced a rear bar for F54. I have one sitting in the garage waiting for me to install it!

 

Installed the 25mm rear bar today. Took me about 3 hours, but I'm an older guy and it was 90 degrees out in the garage. This bar installation was easier to do than any I have done on several gen 1 and gen 2 cars. One needs to have E torx sockets to do the job, or it makes the job easier. Big improvement in cutting understeer ... Highly recommend it.

 

NM makes some good stuff.

 

I have ordered NM sway bar links after seeing and actually handling the stock plastic ones. I have to believe that the rear suspension will feel even more secure.

 

I'm not completely convinced, for street driving. The sway bar transfers forces but doesn't control wheel movement. A plastic connecting link may flex but I don't think it would affect feel much.

That said, I have a set of the NM links to install with the NM sway bar this week so obviously I'm also not completely UNconvinced

Lastly, given the substantial extra weight of the F54 over the smaller MINIs, if the effect of the plastic link is going to show up anywhere it would be here!

Let us know how the before and after feel is, as you'll be the only person I know with experience both ways (with aftermarket swaybar both with and without metal links). There is no substitute for empirical evidence!

Well, the install was not all that difficult; the lower fastening of the link is not so easy to get at with the springs get in the way, so I took them out like one does when installing the bar. It would have been nicer to change the links when doing the bar install.

As to the effect--- I would say the car feels a smidgen tighter with the NM links than with the stock links, and this driver will feel more at ease knowing just how strong the NM links are...they aren't going to break.

Highly recommended! Get them from your favorite supplier...we are lucky to have so many great folks taking care of our cars...Aaron, Way, Chad et.al...they are all great.

 

Update: after almost 6 months after installation I am very happy with the result. I did have a couple of minor issues. 1. The lower link mounting on the right side kept coming loose and giving a clunk. I fixed that finally by using lock rite and a lock washer on the bolt. It is now problem-free. 2. After a trip into colder country last month, the bar started a minor squeak that I cured by using the grease fitting when I returned home--just had to Jack the car and remove rear wheels to access the fittings as I don't have a hoist. I am still a fan.
