Suspension Fitment of Strut Brace and Intake Combo Reference
SuspensionSprings, struts, coilovers, sway-bars, camber plates, and all other modifications to suspension components for Clubman (R55), Cooper and Cooper S (R56), and Cabrio (R57) MINIs.
Many people ask me if XXXX strut brace will work with XXXX intake. So I thought I'd start a reference thread for people that are using an aftermarket strut tower brace and aftermarket intake together.
So please post:
Which brand/style strut tower brace your using?
Which brand/style intake you have?
and any issues with the combo or not?
I think this could be very helpful for people looking to do a certain combo to know if it will work before they buy.
To anyone running he ddm intake for the cooper, does it sit lower than the stock airbox? I have the nm engineering strut brace but it rubs on the stock airbox causing shuddering. I need about 1/4 in more clearance, from the pictures it seems to be lower but want to be sure before spending the money.
I just installed the NM Strut Brace. Quick and Easy. I have stock Air box, so that will be something to look into options for soon. But no clearance issue with stock Air Box.

Looks good. Also, noticed you have a turbo line heat shield installed. Does it work or seem to work? I just installed one yesterday.
Car already has 66K on it but I guess it's never too late. LOL
On my R53, I have the M7 brace and Alta intake, It fits great but the underhood padding needed to be removed to close the hood properly.
Agreed; I had to remove some padding from the bottom side of the hood, and slice the rubber surround where the bar overlaps it, (optional). You can see in the picture below, (especially since the m7 bar was powder coated red), where the black rubber surround of the Alta box runs into the red bar, seemingly stops, then continues on the other side. The rubber surround still actually continues on underneath the bar. After slicing the top part of the rubber surround, the bar then squishes that surround down, for perhaps a nicer look.
