R56 lowering springs: options and specs

This thread will focus on all available spring options for the R56. I will post the brand name, type (progressive or linear), spring rate, drop (in inches), part number, and MSRP. I prefer not to post the actual sale prices in order to avoid a price war between the vendors. Also, I will not cover coil-overs in this thread in order to maintain simplicity and uniformity. If any vendors have the actual spring rates for the listed products, please PM me so that i can update the information. Thanks!

*note, three different springs are available depending on your vin number (in order to determine the relative weight of your vehicle), thus different part numbers. This does not change the price and overall ride height reduction however. See your dealer for details.
**progressive springs will actually vary in spring rate according to the amount of compression, thus no single spring rate will be listed.

As are the H&R's. The only Linear Springs for the R56 are the TSW's, which haven't been released yet.

Cross Coilovers are Linear, available in almost every spring rate imaginable. Megan Coilovers are Linear, Also available in almost every spring rate.

Both sets of coilovers have integrated front camberplates.

So the lowest drop spring available as of now for the R56 are the H&R's?

I just got my H&R springs for the R56. I'm going to get them put on hopefully this weekend or the next after I get my Sway bar in. I'll let everyone know how it goes after I do.

I ordered mine earlier this week along with some lower control arms. Assuming they get here they will be going on Saturday. If they don't who knows when I will have time to put them on!

I've beeen thinking about using the JCW springs on Koni adjustables. Just wondering if anyone knows if the springs will fit the perches? Or do you use the perches from the stock shocks?

Is it true that simply putting lowering springs on stock suspension will make the suspension die out quicker? I really want to get rid of the gap, but its not worth having to replace the whole suspension early

The lower the drop, the faster the stock shocks will wear out. The rest of the suspension should be OK.

I ran mine on Eibach springs for 30k before coilovers with lousy @ss roads and many "oh *****" potholes but they aren't blown. If you want a lower profile go for the springs.

Using lowering springs you put more stress on the stock shocks.

Probably they will last about 12,000-20,000 miles depending on how you drive, loads your carry, and your driving style.

I had H-sport springs and stock shocks and after about one year and 10,000 miles with just me in the car my shocks were definitely not as good as when new. Ride quality got very harsh enough that no one wanted to ride with me on the street.

I just dropped my R56 with H&R springs and I couldnt be happier. The stance is perfect, it handles great and the ride is pretty good, but will get better when I get rid of the runflats. I also did a sway bar so that helps some too. Check out the pics in my sig line to see the MINI after the springs

dw....did you happen to measure before/after, and did you have to do anything else?

Car looks good. I've got an AB inbound. Can't wait, and want to drop it too, but looking for progressives with about a 1" drop and don't want bone-jarring issues either.

Before & After closeups would be sweet if you have 'em.

Which springs?

I have a new Cooper S which I want to lower about 1.25" without increasing ride stiffness. Do any of these springs do that?

Take a look at the pictures in my signature line. My MINI is dropped with H&R springs, so if you like that look you can go that route. I think however the only way to not stiffen the ride is to go with coilovers which are ridiculously expensive. WIth the springs I have the ride is a little stiffer but that will be fixed when I get rid of the runflats, so take the whole system into account. Springs/coilover, shocks, sway bar, strut brace, and tires. Granted you can piece it together. I did springs and sway bar, and will do the tires when I need them but am debating on the strut brace cause they are so freakin expensive. And if you want to go for springs I got mine off tirerack.com for $199

I thought coil overs might be the answer if the right spring rate was available. I'm not that concerned about cost if I can get the right result. Does anyone have info on spring rates or inherit problems from the currently available coil overs?
