My left rear tire is showing some cupping. this wheel seems to have a slight more angle to it than the right one. Any suggestions as to what could be the problem?
Went back to where I got alignment and had it checked again. They found that the rear camber was off and made adjustment. Now we will see if that solves the problem. Follow up to come soon.
IMO cupping isn't a result of bad camber. Wear on the inner or outer edge is. Cupping can be caused by bad balance & or by not rotating the tires. I don't know why, but it has been my experience that rear tires on a FWD cars will cup if not rotated. It's good you got an alignment, but I think your cupped tires are going to stay cupped.
Cupping is where your tires get cups in the treads, uneven wear. And when you rotate them the tires will roar like the tires on some of the big 4 Wheelers
and the old snow tires
I found out the problem. The Adjustment bolts for the rear camber adjustment were loose ( they forgot to tighten them on last alignment) which caused the suspention to flex ( the camber would go in and out as you drove ) The person that did the aligment the first time no longer works there (they fired him for screwing up other peoples cars ) It cost them alot of money in new tires and adjustments.
does anyone have a pic or drawing of the rear camber adjustment bolt location? I want to see if I can dial out any of the excess camber on my lowered car - I realize the adjustment is very limited and most likely already set to its maximum 'positive' setting and I should go with some aftermarket control arms but still...
