Last month my MCS came up with the steering popping noise that I have read on other posts. The parts finally came in yesterday. Service will be done on the 19th. One steering column and steering spindle. Does anyone know what is causing these to fail?

hmmm... I had to have the steering rack assembly in my MC replaced under warranty.

It wasn't a popping noise though... my steering developed a creaking sound when turning at low speeds (different from the slight power-streering whine, although this increased in volume after the creaking started) - so watch out for this too!

It's my opinion that these types of things, plus the various interior rattles most of us are developing, are a result of the run-flat tires... I will be switching to normal tires soon.

This has happened to my MC with the Continental All Seasons. I don't think it is the Run Flats. Sometimes I wonder what else can go wrong with my Mini. I've had almost everything happen except for the wire harness. uh-oh....I shouldn't have said that.

>>Pulley Pulley and the Pulley.

Three pullies are better than one. Wasn't the a hit song back in the 70s or 80s?

Hey guys!

I'm having my steering column replaced today. I hope this cures the cranking-poping noise when turning at low speeds.

Those of you who have had the steering column replaced... Haas this resolved the problems? Do you know if the new sterring column is actually a redesigned column or just an exact replacement?

Thanks for your help!

Juan

It should be a redesigned steering column assembly. I am having the same problem too. How long did it took for the dealer to perform your repair?

The service department had to order the steering column, that took about a week, and then one more week to book my MINI for replacement.

Now that the steering column has been replaced, I can attest that it feels much better without that anoying poping sound!
