about 3 months ago I took my car in to brecht MINI to get the recall done and to get my coolant tank check because I saw that there was blue/green colored dripples on the side of the tank next to the joint. They did a pressure check and did not find and leakes. They also cleaned the tank. Today when I was cleaning my engine compartment I noticed more drips around the joint. Should I ask for a new one? Anyone have any advice? I personally think that the tank is leaking and don't want the leak to get any larger.

I had the same problem with my tank. It was leaking from the front seam and dripping on the heat guard underneath the tank. The coolant was brown like coffee too!

I took it to my dealer (Prestige MINI) and they replaced the tank and the coolant, no questions asked and no charge. The service manager was familiar with the problem (they have replaced quite a few tanks). He mentioned that just because there was no official recall, it did not mean there wasn't a problem.

I have driven more than 1,000 miles since the fix and I haven't had a problem with the tank and the coolant is still blue.

You could try doing what I did when I first discovered the problem. I cleaned my tank and the connecting tubing. I cleaned the heat guard underneath the tank. Then I drove around (a few hundred miles) and parked. The next day, when I checked the tank, the leak was evident. This way, when I brought the car to the dealer, I could have something to show them. Things are easier to see when there's no dirt.

Insist on getting a new tank and coolant (if necessary). It shouldn't cost you anything either!!!

There is a thread on this issue. You might want to check that too.

Good Luck.

I too have found my coolant tank leaking. I scheduled a service time with Classic MINI in Mentor, where I purchased my MCS. Is it okay to drive it and keep the coolant filled until my service? The only time I have is August 30th so I have a whole month left until my service.

Recalls are done only when the problems effects the safety of the vehicle and driver.

I had 4 coolant tanks, then I bought an aluminum one. All better
