Passenger Door Lock Broken Again!

Hey guys,

My passenger door lock is working intermittently again. I had it replaced under warranty twice. Anybody know how much it might cost to fix it? Anybody try to replace it on their own?

Thanks for any advice!

Repair cost

I was just quoted $245 as a repair cost. Anybody know how to do it yourself?

Button doesn't come up

The button doesn't come up all the time, and it sticks. I thought about lubing it, but when it sticks my security system will not disarm. Please advise. Thanks!

That's not a bad price...I've heard of $400 quotes for this repair.

Not bad?

It's rediculas when they've replaced the same lock mechanisim 2 twice before.

I love my Mini but BMW has stuck us all the shorts with the quality of parts used to build the Mini.

I've had two amps replaced, a window motor and a door lock. The window motor and door lock failures seem common place from the post on this site and MINI2.

Sounds like you need a lock actuator which may cost some money. Most dealers should be able to print you an install sheet when you purchase the part.

if you were quoted 245, the part must cost 120. Save the grief an pay up if you ar not confortable with the install. if your car is out of warranty, they guarantee the part but not the install.

Makes you wonder why there are no recalls or SBAs on these common failures (I've had both problems, too).

While you decide what route you are going to take & are tired of setting off the alarm to get in the car, try smacking the passenger door near the handle while clicking the remote. if its the actuator in the door you will just look like a nutcase, but you won't set off the alarm
