Has this happened? gas gauge stuck on empty

I've had this happend three times in 4 years. I start the car, the gas gauge stays on empty. The car runs fine, when I restart, the gauge is back to normal. No problems, just a little disconcerting. I have a 2003 Cooper.

Mine did this so I took it in, they had to replace "Replaced Fuel Tank Sensor 2 (fuel level sensor)". At least that's what it says on my service ticket. It's worked perfectly since.

Never happened to me. Once the gas pump clicks off, I don't give it that extra squeeze on the trigger. Maybe that's the secret, don't know.

It has nothing to do with how you fill the tank.

Fuel sender

Thanks for the inputs. My warranty is almost up, is there an error code generated for this event? Otherwise, how does the dealer justify replacing the sensor under warranty or will the dealer just replace it?

It's an evil plot by the oil companies and George W. to get you to buy more gas.

One of the modules...

stores an error code. The factory scan tool can read it.
