Looks like the web has swallowed all the pictures I had with this post. So I'm removing it.

Excellent Job Simon! By looking at that I know I could do it (and I have no mechanical skills). Thanks for the info!

BTW How much did the K&N filter cost?

$44ish for both filter and cleaning kit. From http://www.ajusa.com Took two weeks from order to delivery.

Invoice details:
KN 33-2270 Item: K&N 33-2270: Replacement Air Filter
Fits:
1 $35.73 $ 35.73
KN 99-5000 Item: K&N 99-5000: Filter Care Service Kit Aerosol
Fits:
1 $8.68 $ 8.68

Sub-Total $ 44.41
Shipping $ 0.00
Total $ 44.41

NB
You don't need the cleaning kit right away, but it was a good price so I got it at the same time!

You might be able to get away with not removing the intercooler cover. I didn't need to remove it to install my Madness filter.

That's true owen, but the more room the better, especially for the noobs like me.

Besides, look at your knuckles they're scarred and scabbed, working in tight spaces?

First of all the Cooper uses a differnt filter. The K&N part number is 33-2239.

See http://knfilters.com/

K&N is not the only maker of replacement airfilters out there, just the one I use.

I know the Air filter is in a different place but I >ASSUME< (and we all know what that means) the procedure would be similar for a cooper. Unscrew cover replace filter and screw cover back in. But as I only own an 'S' I can't be sure. Maybe you could investigate and do a how-to for the cooper.

Need to add the following step:
Vacuum pound of sand out of bottom of air filter box.
