Should I remove my CAI?

Hiya all,

I tried to do a search in the forums for an answer to this. But, I am, limited on time today, and my MCS has to go in tomorrow morning to fix a very nasty sound related with pushing the clutch pedal in.

In the last week I installed a CAI from M7, actually made by DDMWorks.
I am taking my MCS in the morning to have the clutch problem looked at. Should I remove the M7/DDMWorks CAI, and put back the stock one. I am thinking about doing this so they don't give me a bunch of crap about having non-BMW parts on the car. I will be going to South Bay MINI.

Does anyone here have experience with taking your car in and having warranty work refused cause of your CAI?

Pelase don't flame me for posting a thread that could have been solved with a search, but I am short on time

realistically it shouldn't be a problem as when you install after market parts it should only void the warrenty on that part... or what that part effects in extreme cases.

However, it's more of a dealer by dealer case. Some are cool about it some aren't. Your problem is clutch related so the cai should have nothing to do with it meaning if it came down to it... it should still be covered. But if you have the time to re-install it and make it look totally stock... it might be worth it for piece of mind.

agreed completly, some dealers couldnt care what is on your car when you bring it in, some will say your warrenty is void because of a window sticker (extreme case, probably not true, but just saying)

Thanks A TON for the replies guys. Your words have done a lot to calm me down. This clutch thing is nasty, and has me full of anxiety. I hope SB MINI doesn't come back at me saying, well you gotta pay for a new "yada-yada xyz", and it'll cost ya $3k.

Thanks!!!

and remember... if they are going in to replace the clutch... it might be a good idea to try and wheel and deal them on installing an lsd. prob teh only time you can get one for even any where close to the factory install price.

M7 has a CAI? Are you referring to the AGS?

The HDI box formerly from WMS, now from the originator DDM, through M7

K, my MCS went to SB MINI yesterday morning to solve the problem of the creaking/crunching/all-around-yukky feeling clutch pedal. At the time of discussing the trouble with the SA, I popped the hood to allow him to hear where the sound was emanating from. The new HDI I put on is bare sheet metal, so it is very noticable. The SA didn't say a word. Later in the day he informed me the pressure plate would need to be replaced, and as long as they were there might as well replace the clutch. All under warranty . Which is the way it shoudl be. I have had this feeling in the clutch pedal since about 2000 miles. And had them repair it once already. That time it was replacing the Flywheel.

So YAY, after 2 trips to the dealer to get this problem sorted out, it looks like we are on our way to a healthy MCS . Although I am bummed that with this trip to the dealer, I have now been in for service 7 times. That does include my 10k mile service.
