Change my oil before my first service?

I drive my car moderately hard and have taken it to 3 track days, but at 7500 miles, it still says I have about 2500 to go before my first service. Should I at least change my oil? Did anyone take theirs in for the first service when it still said 2500 miles to go?

dealer apparently tells you to wait until you're at about 200miles to
go unless you're coming up to one year.

but with 3 track days they might do it for you. give them a ring.

I just got mine done (at 11,000 miles!). The dealer refused to do it over 500 miles to go on the service counter--even though my year was up and the odometer read well over 10,000 miles. I had changed my oil at 5000miles (it was very dark coffee) and by 11,000 miles the Mobil1 was again, very dark almost black. I can actually see the dipstick end now.
I'm going to change the oil and filter every 5000 miles, regardless, just because I'm freaky cautious...
cheers,

I drive pretty hard (no track) and I'm a die-hard change every 7500mi. I just don't believe in the 15000mi mark... seems to be a bit much.

Change it yourself too... it's really easy. To me, $40 on oil and a filter is WELL worth it for peace of mind. Even if the engine doesn't really need it.

The color of the oil on the dipstick is not a very good indicator of the quality of the oil. It can be very dark and still be perfectly good.

I had my 2005 for over a year and only put about 5,200 miles on it. I asked them to change the oil because it appeared a bit dirty and slightly low. They changed it no questions asked.

If thats true, your dealer screwed you over. Just check your maintenance manual, if you haven't hit the countdown mileage after one full year of ownership, they provide whats called a free low mileage oil change. Its not the complete 10000 mile service, just the oil change. I know because I had one done

Also, as someone else indicated, the color of the oil means nothing. Several people have sent their oil out for analysis to places like this http://youroil.net/ and despite the oil being black, it was perfectly fine. The days of 3 or 5K oil changes are over. FYI, oil changes on new Porsches is 20K

Very true. If you doubt the condition of the oil (when its color has changed to very dark), send a sample off to an oil analysis laboratory. That said, I am also one who subscribes to the model of change the oil and filter every 7,500 miles or 12 months, whichever occurs first. (And I changed the oil and filter at the end of the 1,250 mile break-in period too....)

Good to see car manufactures designing better, more efficient engines that require fewer oil changes! Who knows what the cost of a barrel of oil will be in 5,10,20 years from now!!
