well you are pretty set over there in michigan. I did a rally with the michigan city motoring club last weekend and metro city mini set a tech along in a spanking new jcw. His name was brandon and he didn't drive a mini himself but man does he know how to fix them.

I think I know who you are talking about, he does know his stuff.... it's just the service people that you have to get past... I don't want to start trash talking too much about them on here though, pm me if you're curious, It's actually a decent story.

here, here... If only we could speak directly to the techs... my whole world would be turned upside-down.

For my first post on NAM I'm asking for acceptance into the leaky motor mount club...

Our '06 MCS only has about 6000 miles on it and I just found a puddle of hydraulic fluid over the weekend. Called my local dealer (Mini of Pittsburgh) and the guy in service acted quite concerned. He even went as far as to recomend that we not drive it the 50 miles to the dealer. He told me to call Mini Road Assistance and they would shuttle our MCS to the dealer for repair then back to us when it's done.

Funny, jcandp, I was just into MINI of Pittsburgh on 10/13/06 and they replaced my mount under warrenty no questions asked. It was my first service at 13,000 on my '06 JCW. I figured it must be pretty common for them since they had them in stock. They didn't act surprised, but didn't let on that it was a common occurance either. I'll just have to keep my eyes on this one.

Moderators: I believe there are several threads about this issue, and its becoming more common for 04 and 05 owners to realize they have the issue after reading the threads. How bout a merge and a sticky?

Anyone else agree?

I agree. However, It doesn't seem to be limited to '04 & '05 cars.

True, I was under the impression that the motor mounts previous to '04 were solid and not oil filled, but this thread has apparently disproven that.

Thanks for the clarification!

Just an update for those tuning in. I just had mine changed not too long ago. Mine didn't look any where near as bad as some of those in this thread. Matter of fact mine was just leaking on the support bar underneath it and had some dried up residue.

I would definatly have it taken care of sooner rather then later just for piece of mind and because that black stuff trashes the paint in your engine bay. The double edged sword is that if you clean it off before you take it into the dealership it may not be obvious to them that the part is shot. However, this is a common problem and my mini sa was talking to me in the back room and showed me the box of them that he had that were shot. He said many times they will just pull and replace them without the customer even saying anything about it.

i can tell you that my 06/03 build does not have the pressure cooker
type. i just looked at it while i was figuring out if the engine damper i
just ordered would be a direct bolt-on on my car or not.

I poped my fourth cherr, oh I mean, "hydraulic engine damper" this week at 37.5K miles. In my case I could feel a lot of engine movement way before it poped and it's not worse after it poped. So I am wondering if something else is wrong and it's causing the mounts to go pop. I am getting tired of this and I am wondering if Mini will continue to replace them after the warrenty is up??

New part number on the fixed motor mount

If this part was fixed in 2007, and the part fits on the 2005 mini cooper s, does anyone have the new part number so I can ask for it when I go in to have my second hydraulic motor mount replaced it is replaced with one that will last?

Thank you

Guess what? Yep, you guessed it, I now have 49K miles and I just poped another one! So I am very interested if there is a new damper.

At $70 a pop (pardon the pun), that can get pricey

Thank you.
Does anyone know of a aftermarket solid polyurethane engine mount that replaces the 2005 mini cooper s hydraulic engine mount 22116778610? Can you please post the links of the venders if you know them?

Thanks again.

My passenger side was replaced today under warranty after making clunking sounds for the last 4 months. It started leaking over the weekend. Mechanic said this was common. Ugh!!!!!!!!!

If you smell "fruity" fluid, check the radiator thermostat housing. They crack frequently - about as often as the motor mounts die...

After mine was replaced (`05 S, 45K miles) I was able to clean off the black goop easily with isopropyl alcohol, without messing up the paint.

Anyone have trouble changing one of these? I removed the nut and the bolt fromt he two attachment points, jacked up the motor a bit, and the darn thing won't move. I can't get that bottom part with the pin to come up out of the chassis. I tried drinking a beer but that hasn't fixed it either.

The "one" in question is the passenger side one which seems like the one most folks here have experienced failure in.

Hmmmmm.....

My 06 MCSC looked like a lot of the pictures I've found in the forums by people with bad motor mounts, so I took it to the dealer this morning. The SA just called telling me that there is nothing wrong with the motor mount, but my oil pan gasket was leaking and was replaced. ????? How does that thick black fluid squirt up to the frame below the motor mount from the oil pan gasket? Does this seam to defy logic to anyone else?

I think your SA is full of beans.

If there is oil under that mount it is from that mount. It seems that all 05 & 06 MINI's have the mount fail. IMHO there is no way oil from a leaking oil pan under the engine is going to get up there.

I had the same thing happen at Mini Windsor just last week. The SA said that there is no fluid in the motor mounts, just a spring and that the oil was coming up from around the pulley. Huh???? So, I got good old Chad at Detroit Tuned to send me some pics of a torn apart, leaky, fluid-filled motor mount. Argument over. They are going to replace it under warranty. It is so lame when these so-called professionals don't even know the cars they are supposed to advise us on.

Thanks Chuck and Big Daddy. I will be leaving for the dealer in a few minutes, and might need to chat a bit more with him.... My SA used to be a salesman, and was not very helpful in that role.

Take it to South Bay Mini. I drive an hour to take my car there, because they are the best. They will replace it, no questions asked. They have replaced 5 of them for me, the last one was 10 miles before my warranty was up.
