I'm just asking because I read a rumor that the 2007 engine will be made by Peugeot.

It's still the same

It's still made by Chrysler in Brazil.. It won't change until the new generation of 07 comes out. Which you already know about.

Does this mean that the MINI is equipped with the same engine as the POC (piece of crap) PT Cruisers in the USA?

No, it is not the same engine used in the US PT Cruiser. The supercharged version of the engine is specific to the MINI. The normally aspirated version is used in the Euro-edition of the Cruiser. US Spec uses a 2.4L engine, not the Tritec.

There are numerous threads on the engine - search on Tritec for details.

The MINI's current engine is rock solid and has won awards for the supercharged version.

Thanks for the info...

I knew that they were originally made by Chrysler, but didn't now if they still were.

I got into a little 'spat' with my cousin's husband about that. He asked me if I knew who made the engine for the Mini and I told him that I believe that Chrysler did. He was completely sure that I was mistaken. He said that Chrysler is Mercedes, and Mini is BMW and why on Earth would Mercedes be working with BMW, blah, blah, blah. I did'nt have the facts to back up my side of the argument. Now I do! Hah!

I shall e-mail him the link for Tritec.

I read somewhere that the Tritec engine was designed by BMW and Chrysler before Chrysler became Daimler-Chrysler....this is a good engine imo, can't understand why they want to change to something different unless the new engine can be produced cheaper.

Cheaper and France? I believe those are mutually excludable terms, in any economy. Baguettes and vino, maybe, but manufactured goods? I'd bet the price goes up. They'll have to save $'s somewhere, now.

After market parts do not void your warantee. If a problem occurs and can be related to your aftermarket part, then the car manufacturer can claim your part caused the problem, and not fix 'that' problem. If another item unrelated were to fail, it would still be covered.
