Rubber piece hanging from bottom of rear suspension..

Any idea what this rubber piece is?
It's attached to the lower part of the rear suspension and for some reason it's hanging down and touching the inside of my wheel..
Took a look at the other side and it is suppose to wrap around something but must have fallen off.
Trying to see it I need to take care of it immediately or wait till i go in for service..

I didn't get a pic of what you are talking about, but is it the rubber piece that wraps around the rear shock to cover the attachment bolt?

I don't have a camera with me.
It's on the bottom part of the shock and yes it looked like it is suppose to cover something.
Here's a small pic of where the rubber cover is..

bottom bolt cover on shock

It's hard to see from your picture, but I think the rubber piece your referring to is a cover for the shock absorber lower bolt. Look at the other side of your car, to the bottom of your shock and I bet the rubber piece is covering the bottom shock absorber bolt... good luck

It's the lower shock mount cover - mine came loose, too, on the driver's side. I just reached under the car and tugged the little sucker back onto the outer shock bolt. I noticed mine when I was changing tires and had the wheel off - it makes it easier to fix, but it isn't mandatory. . .

You have to do it with the wheel off. It has a couple pegs that fit on one side then it stretches over the bottom of the shock and onto the shock bolt on the other side. The shock bolt has a triangular-shaped washer. What you have to do is stretch the end of the rubber piece over the tips of the triangle, which holds it in place.

it comes off if you take it to car washes with rails.

That happened to me. Mine got torn up. I guess I'll have to get another one from the dealer. Anyone know how much they cost?

Another reason to avoid any kind of car washes.

Actually, they aren't even necessary - the '02 and early '03 cars didn't even have them.

They are nice to have to prevent corrosion though.

Here's a tip: use some WD-40 on the nipple that goes into the trailing arm, pop it in there, then stretch the cover over the triangular shaped washer like Rick said. You can do it with the wheel on, but it makes it easier to either have the wheel off or the car jacked up.

Hope that helps!
Randy

hummm... mine's a 6/03 build and has them.

I'd just e-tape that area (or spray paint it black) and just leave it off.
No sense buying a new one.

In the winter time if you need to use the car wash, just get taller
tires mounted on your stockers or another set of wheels.

for instance 205/45/17 will not clear the rail, but i bet a 205/50/17 would.
or 205/50/16 will not, but 205/55/16 probably would, etc.

Yeah - only early '03 cars don't have them.
