HELP: need instruction for AC evaporator replacement

Guys,

I've managed to puncture AC evaporator core on my 2004 MCS with auto AC (don't ask me how).
I need whoever of you have BMW TIS to print out a pdf or something on official procedure to replace it.
I had TIS but with system rebuild it doesn't work and the one I just downloaded is all german.

Obviously other manuals like Bentley would work too.

Please email to marius at dami dot us.

Thanks a lot!

OK- I know you said don't ask but I have to be that guy.... how

oh come on.... you teased us, now we have to know.

Is what you are looking for available from a BMW mechanic? I have a friend that is one of the master mechanics at a BMW shop. I could ask him. You will have to let me know what it is you need specifically that he would know about.

Chris

Was mounting SAT radio module (alpine), first I used a plastic velcro, but glue on that wasn't holding up against evaporator's shell (of course I had no idea that's that), so decided to use SMALL screw. The rest is history.

$240 part. Friend is going to help me out pulling everything out.
Just need specific instructions on how do you replace it - what's the sequence of pulling things out, etc. I know MINI packs some weird stuff (like rear seat removal).

My r53's leaky evaporator needs replacing as well.

A local shop quoted me ~$1200 in labor. Now that this car is not my daily driver, I may have the time to do it myself but I can't seem to dig up any tutorial on how to go about stripping the dash down to the firewall (which is what I was told is involved in this repair).

After troubleshooting my system, and disassembling most if the dash, I'd say that's right...the entire HVAC unit has to come out of the car...meaning the dash trim, the dash plastic frame, and main metal dash have to come out. There's really not that much to it...just keep the removed screws in labeled containers/sandwich bags as you take it apart

a little ecouragement is all it takes sometimes...out of curiousity did you end up replacing your evaporator or were your issues elsewhere?

it didn't come to that, thank goodness.....after I replaced a hose from the compressor to the condenser, replaced the drier receiver, and sprayed a foaming cleaner on the evap and condenser, I started getting a 40 degree temp drop!.
looks like replacing the evap is straight forward, once you remove the entire hvac unit out of the car

3 years later, the system won't hold vac for more than about 2 minutes. when I put a little r134a into the system I hear it hissing, and my leak detector (sniffer) goes bonkers only when I put the tip against the firewall under the coolant overflow/power steering fluid tanks. It also detects leaking gas if I get under the the car and put the tip against the heat shield over the header. No other gas leaks detected inside or outside the car.

Did you use an aftermarket evaporator or oem?
sometimes it’s best to go oem.

I didn't replace the evap 3 years ago. I was able to isolate the evaporator and expansion valve and test for leaks, they're good.

Mine appears to be blocked up internally. New compressor, new condenser, full of Freon, not cooling.
