Stock Problems/IssuesDiscussions related to warranty related issues and repairs, or other problems with the OEM parts and software for MINI Cooper (R50), Cabrio (R52), and Cooper S (R53) MINIs.
2006 R50, 130,000 miles. I thought I fixed this, but apparently not. After a rain storm the passenger footwell has a gallon or two of water in it. The car was not driven in the rain. It was parked before the rain, slight driveway incline with the nose down. The sunroof drains are not disconnected and function properly when tested. The windows appear to be sealed well. I suppose I can ask my wife to hose the car down while I'm in it to look for an obvious leak. Any other suggestions for where to inspect for the point of infilration? TIA
Check under the hood by the firewall on passenger side where the ABS module is. If that compartment doesn't drain properly, water can pass through a grommet into the passenger area.
Thank you. I cleaned that out after the first flooding, it was very clogged. I felt sure that was the problem, but it flooded with the same amount of water during rthe next rain. I'll have another look at that whole area, maybe I missed something.
SOLVED. The passenger door molding has the tiniest tear in it, only visible when under pressure. It has a rain molded into it that goes from the top, outside of the A pillar down to the bottom of the door, outside the sill. Mine was allowing water to drain into and over the sill onto the passenger floor. I just need to replace the molding and clean up the mating surfaces well, they are gunked up.
Could you post a picture of this for the benefit of everyone reading this thread now and down the line so we know exactly where you found this issue and what was replaced to fix it? Thanks in advance and well done!
The neighbors must have thought we're nuts. My wife generally does not enjoy helping me with my cars, but for some reason she loved the idea of hosing me down inside the Mini Cooper. The pics illustrate the small inlet holes to the door seal, accumulated junk and slime, and a small tear near the bottom of the seal. The water got behind the seal and crossed over the pinch weld (term?) at the sill, into the passenger footwell instead of outside the sill. If all the pics don't fit in one post, I'll continue in an additional "reply."
