Water....

So I was told by a co-worker a few min ago that one of the sprinkler heads was broken and was spewing water in my car. Ran outside and luckily the water was off but there now is about an inch of water in the rear foot wells.

I soaked up as much as I could with the towel I keep in the car and am leaving early to try and shop-vac the rest out. Any ideas to keep it from mildewing?

I had a similiar problem when my sunroof opened mysteriously with a terrential downpour of rain,My floors have the thick rubber mats, bui the water still made its way to some portions of the carpet.Like you I used the shop vac, towels and a chamoie and dried it and dried it the best I could. If tommarrow is a sunny dry day try to leave the windows open to air it out but continue to keep using towels to keep it dry.Mine is bone dry due to a quick responce.Hopefully you got it in time as I did.

Building insurance should pay for a pro clean-up.

The another way is to leave it in a large garage with the doors and windows open and a large fan or fans blowing into the car.

This^^^ It's their fault that their equipment wasn't properly maintained and damaged your car as a result.

I have used a small electric heater with a fan, set in the footwell. Open the windows a bit to let the water vapor out. When one side is dry move the heater to the other footwell. It gets the carpet dry and only takes a few hours.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I did get it taken care if right after it happened. Went home and used the shop-vac to vacuum the carpets really well. When I was done, hour and a half later, the vac had about an inch in the bottom. I think its a 2 gallon vac.

For the next four hours I used a large box fan and ran it on high in each of the foot wells. This morning I washed to car to remove the hard water spots all over it. I started feeling the carpets and I don't feel any more wetness even when taking a paper towel and stepping on it in the well.
