Broken bonnet (hood) latch
Broken bonnet (hood) latch
My grandparents have nice 2007 r56 s that we have been talking about fixing. We love the car and would hate to see it go. It’s sat for a few years so it’s definitely in need of some tough love. The first issue we encountered is the bonnet latch. We went to open the bonnet to look at the engine, and a loud pop happened, the bonnet didn’t pop up and there is no more tension in the latch, is there any way we can open the bonnet without the latch, or do we need to take it to a shop?

YouTube tutorials are your friend. There are several descriptions out there. Start with this one:
It will mean jacking the car up, so be very safe in doing that (other YT tutorials for that too).
Make sure the cables haven't popped out of the handle inside the car first, but if it has been sitting for a while then I suspect the 2 catches on the hood are quite seized. Mine got stuck in the open position and the hood wouldn't latch properly closed so needed some cleaning and lubing (and mine gets opened frequently!).
Good luck

Yep, they can rust at the front or get gummed up. Also the that handle can bend due to the stuck cables.

Hit the front cables with some WD 40 once in a while and that latch.
URO now has a upgraded metal handle.
