Torque spec for vibration damper mount
Torque spec for vibration damper mount
What are the torque specs for the vibration damper (upper motor mount)?
I just replaced my vibration damper on my 2005 Mini and the Bentley manual said 74 ft*lb for the engine bracket to motor mount bolt and 74 ft*lb for the motor mount to frame bolt.
However, despite it going from the mount to the frame, the lower TORX M10 x 110 bolt will not go to 74 ft*lb (65 max) and I may have damaged the motor mount. The Bentley manual should have had three torque specs.
I do not subscribe to the German “GutenTight” or Russian “Brokenov” free hand tightening and would like to do this to the spec.
Thank you,
Peter

Per the Mini factory repair manual:
Bolts holding the bracket to the motor - 66Nm (48.7 lb-ft)
Nut holding engine bracket to motor mount - 68 Nm (50lb-ft)
Bolt holding motor mount to chassis - This is a torque-to-yield bolt and MUST be replaced every time (which is why you're having problems with it). It should be pre-torqued 56 Nm (41.3 lb-ft) and then tightened an additional 90° of rotation.
For the "dogbone" bracket that sits on top of all this, the two bolts are 100Nm (74 lb-ft).
