MTH PROBLEM...please help!

Installed MTH Sunday, car feeling good and driving great...then this morning...

Driving to work in the morning. I thought i would give the car a bit of a work out....going about 70mph in 4th gear i floored it and took it to just before the redline. shifted into 5th and the "Service Engine Soon" light came on...no loss of power, no shut off, still running strong as ever...i pulled over to the side, shut off the car, restarted, but the SES light still stayed lit.

Anyone with MTH had this problem???? If so how did you fix it?

Any advice would help...my  turned into

Wen, there's been some discussion of service engine lights coming on after v39, I think...you might try the battery disconnect or reset your ECU...

I'll search for the thread--it wouldn't hurt to try! I don't remember reading this as a common MTH problem...

You can run it over to Autozone or a simular parts store and ask them to pull the SEL codes for you as well. That will help troubleshoot the issue.

Wen, I have a cable you are welcome to use if you'd like..I'm not planning on changing anything right now, and I'm about 45minutes from Flag City, so if you want to borrow my cable you're welcome to it.

I do think that this problem has been cropping up in v39 loaded MINIs...do a thread search..

I was under the impression that the MTH was easily removed and put back in
just for this type of situation.

Problem solved! It had nothing to do with MTH....the code error was "Coolant temp below Thermostate" which i cleared with the Autozone Loaner OBD2 checker and reader. Back to normal...I AM A HAPPY MTH user again!

Usually waiting until the needle hits the 1st line (1/4 on the gauge) is close enough. That's about 100-120F The center line is anywhere from 160-220F. It's always good to let the engine warm up before stepping on it. At the very least you're not throwing all your oil past your piston rings or valve guides (which won't seal fully until the engine's warm). Back in my 3-series days, we were pretty **** about not revving the engine over 3k until the temp guage was at the 1st line (1/4) The engine rattled like a diesel until it was warm The MINI isn't quite that dynamic, but better safe than sorry.

MTH Serivce Engine Soon Light with V.39 Coolant Code

I am experiencing the same problem with V.39 with the MTH upgrade. I was sitting in traffic when my light came on. So I am not convinced it is a WOT issue. I had the code reset Yesterday. Any one mention this to Franz yet?
