R56 - new thermostat housing & temp level

Have 2010 Mini S. Having had Mini Mania gauge set (Water/Oil) installed 2010, F temp has always = 185 under most circumstances. Now, with new warranty housing, BMW wants 212 - 220.

Now I understand it is treating fuel efficiency as a priority, however, fans come on much more often.

Question: should one have a Manic Stage 2 tune done to reduce operating temp & to address any increased temp/wear issues over the long term ?????????

Is is difficult for me to trust BMW to do anything right, since 1992, with all due respect.

prior to last week when i had the thermostat housing replaced under the warranty extension, i was at around 225...now, it's at 185.
that and the high pressure fuel pump replacement...the car runs the best it has ever ran since i got it in 2016. i was cruising I-10 to Tuscon yesterday at 88 MPH and the temp stayed at 185 at almost 3k RPM

Thermostat Housing - etc

To: 871 MCS:\

According to you what you said, "after the thermostat housing was installed, your temp went DOWN to 185"?? Is that correct? If so, do you have info concerning who did the work, etc? Based on my thermostat housing installation, and the Mini dealership - service floor manger (she is very good), she has said that during our extended series of conversations on this issue that 212-220 is the new norm. I am very interested on how your experience has taken you in the "right direction". Thank you.

down to 185 is correct. just had it done at the mini dealership in scottsdale, AZ, just a few days ago. i thought 220ish was normal from these forums. i get my temp from the bluetooth obd 2 reader and android app, torque pro.

i was getting a check engine light with the P0597 error code (Thermostat Heater Control Circuit Open) i didn't think anything of it, as it didn't seem to affect engine operation. the dealer verified that it was actually faulty, so free replacement under the warranty extension by Mini.

871 MCS - Thermostat Housing, etc

871 MCS:

Appreciate the response. Now, I understand. My tech dealership friend, Ingrid, says that to lower the temp, I would go in the direction of a Stage 2 Manic program to adjust. My temp since 2010 has always been 185 or so (using Mini Mania temp/oil pressure gauge set). So now immediately after thermostat housing replace = 212 - 220; very uncomfortable, generally speaking. Lower oil pressure, etc.
Also, with the Bluetooth app you've referenced, you performed the procedure yourself, correct? Again, thank you. Presently looking for a local auto service to provide the Stage 2 Manic procedure.............

871 MCS - Thermostat Housing, etc

Hi:

Based on your response, needed to clarify - the bluetooth OBD 2 and Torque Pro - did you do this adjustment to the temperature yourself?

Do know that your AZ dealer did the housing and corrected the P0597 error code (Thermostat Heater Control Circuit Open). But according to my dealer tech, they cannot perform an adjustment that is not BMW factory i.e reduce the prescription temp currently engineered to do 212 - 220. As best I can, I believe that is the nature of the problem you have/I am addressing.

As usual, thanks very much........................

sorry for the late response...i did not make the adjustment through the app, it's read-only. my theory is, is that anyone running 220ish F temp has a faulty thermostat. it's great to finally have fun with the car again. i really don't think 220ish is normal now.
