when I snapped mine, I used a pick to tap it on the sides in a circular counter clock wise motion to unscrew it...it took me a while, but got it out .

Aren't backing bits (reverse direction) good enough to remove these? If the retainer bolt gets snapped, the remnants in there should be loose enough in the threaded groove. I've done this with other bolts on this car, just not the retainer bolt, yet. knock on wood.

Congrats on getting the broken bolt sorted.

If you have a leak at the back, there's really only a few places it could be. Valve cover gasket at the top and leaking down, or VANOS solenoid. Techncially the tensioner is back there but don't know if's that's a common leaker. the VANOS o-ring is like a buck and the VCG is maybe $30-40. Both the VANOS and the VCG are good maintenance items that should be done once in a blue moon and they're not super difficult but can take some patience. There's a good how-to at https://www.pelicanparts.com/techart..._Replacing.htm

Hi everyone!
I just want to give you guys update. After check all leaks and rough idling I decided to get tune up. I replace vacum pump gasket, install new HPFP, new oil feed and return line, all gaskets at the oil cooler housing, camshaft Vanos solenoid, thermostat gasket. When I remove thermostat broke coolant pipe from thermostat to water pump. Replace this pipe as well $103 from mini Dealership. Also replace valve gasket and seal engine oil pan, get some small plastic pieces from oil pump strainer after 10 miles of drive. Not much but still feel much better knowing is no missing parts inside of the engine
Car run fine, no check engine lights. I find only 2 small issues and I hope you guys give me idea which way to dig.

1) At the low part of the oil cooler housing I find small amount of oil, just one drop at the floor. I clean all area around and will do my investigation on it. My question is this ok first time to have small wet spot at that area after change all this gaskets? I also pour oil to the engine to the top mark can this make some effect?

2) I replace fuel pump at the gas tank and now my gas sensor going crazy. I have 1/2 tank of gas and the dash blinking need gas. This is happen today, and I just like oh well I need gas, and then is only 1/2 tank. Brand new pump only 200 miles on it. What should I do to ? Where I need to check connections, or I need go back to the tank and adjust lever or something? Please guys give me idea. Thanks everyone.

Hello guys.
I have a major oil leak I went to local dmv yesterday 3 miles away and red oil light flash at the dash. I stop check the oil level and is low. Add a 1 quart and find oil leak under the car, when I drive back home same story another quart . At home I remove some air lines and try to identify a leak and can’t find any . I get some oil between transsmission and engine. Oil leaks on driver side back of the engine , I remove manifold and is nothing wet .
I just replaced all turbo lines, thermostat gasket, HPFP, vacuum pump gasket, oil pan, valve cover gasket. I check all this dry. Anybody know if between transmission and engine any main seal gaskets?
