(2012) Cooper S_ About a week ago (could be longer) I opened my hood in order to replace my valve cover and I noticed quite a bit of tension on the wire... But when I looked at it upon getting the hood up the system seemed fine... the next time however I got immense tension and the guide slipped out of the bracket... how do i get the hood up??

Check the cord near the handle might have just popped out.

 

This is a real common problem....in my car the hood latches near the radiator need regular lubrication. If the cause isn't the cable slipping out of the handle in the interior, then it is likely that it became disconnected at the junction near the wiper washer reservoir. If this is the case, do a search and you'll find a way to release the hood...I've never had to do it, so I'm not real familiar, but there are some threads on NAM that explain it.

I tried to put the cord pull back into the bracket and while having a friend flush down on the hood I pulled the cable and still nothing... maybe the latch is just stuck, mayhaps a bit of Olde WD-40 could help??
