I'm having a problem with my 2002 R50 Mini. After leaving the hatch/boot open over night, I've been having problems starting (no spark or crank, etc). The problem isn't consistent. It will start right up some times and other times it will do nothing. Battery is good, charged it up and it holds voltage and passed load test. Just to be sure, I bought a brand new battery with no success. All the relays and fuses have been checked and are good as well. The problem has been getting worse over the last 2-3 months. A local mechanic is able to "fix" for 50 Euros, but it only works for about a week each time he "fixes" it. After endless troubleshooting, I've found that unplugging the EWS3 box, letting it sit for a minute, then plugging it back in will allow the car to start. Sometimes it works on the first try, some times it takes 3 to 5 tries. I'm not sure if the cable/connector is going bad, the EWS box is going bad, or if it's out of sync. My K+DCan cable arrived this week, so I'm looking for advice on what I should test/scan.
If I get another EWS box from a junk yard, is it possible to program it so I can use it? I'm assuming that I would need to change out or re-program the keys at a minimum.
Can you walk me through checking that? I've ran a continuity check between the battery and the frame and there is continuity.
I had a similar issue with my 04 Mini, turned out the wire from my cam/crank shaft sensor had a short ( I think crank if I remember correctly, the one facing the radiator at the front of the engine). Ran a new wire from the sensor to the ignition wire under the steering wheel cover( green wire) and have been driving it since although on rare occasions the car won’t turn off when the ignition is turned off... manually separating the wires shuts the car off no problem.
Sorry for the late reply. I removed the EWS box and cleaned the contacts. I decided not to mount it back into the car in case vibrations are causing the connector to get lose (roads in southern Italy are not always the best) and it's been good for two weeks.

Después de desconectar y volver a conectar el cable que va a la caja de EWS, INPA muestra esto y el automóvil arrancará bien. [/CITAR]
Hi, I have the same problem with an R56, could you tell me where the EWS module is physically located, in the car.
