Unfortunately, the wastegate on our cars wear out the surrounding compressor housing. This usually requirings a complete turbo replacement. I’ll be starting my turbo replacement Tuesday because the wastegate failed.

Thats sad... need to spend 1k for new turbo. What kind of turbo are you going to pit on?

What do you mean wear out the surrounding compressor housing? Do you have a pic of that? I never would have guessed a failed wastegate would mean a new turbo.

Correction; Exhaust housing wear. The wastegate shaft will wear or the surrounding "exhaust housing" will wear causing issues with wastegate operation. Typically you can't replace just the wastegate in these cars.
The wastegate shaft moves in mounting holes is housing.... the holes wear egg shaped causing the wastegate shaft to bind, to the point, no amount of vacuum will move it..... turbo is dead at that point.... don't ask how I know!!

ahhh I can picture the issue now. Crazy that the one part can ruin a whole turbo setup.
the wastegate on my S went out at something like 120k. I had the turbo rebuilt and replaced the cracked exhaust housing. You might be able to just replace the housing.
