Stock Problems/IssuesDiscussions related to warranty related issues and repairs, or other problems with the OEM parts and software for MINI Clubman (R55), Cooper and Cooper S(R56), and Cabrio (R57).
For a 2009 Mini Cooper, the rubber cover on the rear latch is broken but also this seems to have some how led to a failure of the remote rear hatch function (or it's a coincidence).
Can manually open the hatch, but key fob does not open hatch.
I did not take it apart yet, but in diagram below I assume I need the foam pad (although it's more of a rubber cover).
For the remote open function I assume it's the Bowden cable that pops the latch? Is the cable a mechanical opener or an electrical cable? I will take it apart before ordering any parts. It may just need lubrication?
Pretty sure the bowden cable is only applicable to 1st generation MINIs. Your 2009 latch should be purely electrical. The deteriorated rubber cover is a fairly common problem usually fixed by replacing the entire handle assy. The switch is not available separately. Some brave souls have replaced the switch with a generic push button switch (search 2nd gen hatch talk). Your inop remote may be a totally separate problem.
