Thanks for confirming. That is consistent with fullmoonguru's observation. That is why so many PTO gears died of premature death. BMW and Eaton really screwed this one up.

Your new seal has.

CarFreak427, glad this helped you. Not sure how many miles since I did mine but it's my daily and it's been 2-1/2 years so I'm calling it done.

Yeah the original seal is not of the typical design for oil seals. I keep thinking their must be some reason they went with that particular design but really can't think of what that would be.

Please share the new seal part number and where to find it!

I would share the link but it appears I may have gotten the last of them. The Amazon listing says out of stock with no time frame. I still have two though, since it came in a pack of 3. Should anyone need one, I’ll keep them around.

Oh I thought you were saying you found an alternate part number to replace the one they aren't manufacturing anymore.

With all indications this seal from National 471466v is a cross compatible. The slight dimensional difference is likely due to metric-imperial-metric-imperial... rounding error to the power of 10. It is spring loaded lip.

Actually if you look at the shaft size and housing bore, it is exact in mm.

pto gear shaft seal

I picked my seal up at O'Reilly's. It is tiny. Under $8. fullmoonguru is the man that blazed the trail. It is made in Mexico, thanks to NAFTA.
