R50/53 Supercharger and WP question

Supercharger and WP question

I will be replacing the Supercharger soon.


Original Waterpump was replaced at 75,000 miles and I am at 127,000 miles.


Should I go ahead and order a new WP and replace while I am in there?


Also, what would a used SC that needs a rebuild be worth?

Whether or not you replace the water pump would be up to you or if it is leaking. We don't see people back for another water pump once we replace it the first time, so I'd say you'll probably be fine with not replacing it.

We were buying cores for around $100-150 back when we needed to build inventory on chargers, but you may be able to find someone else who is in the rebuilding business to pick it up off of you.

If it was replaced at 75K and you've got 57K on this one, I would replace. If you're doing the R&R yourself, it might be worth the risk, but it's a pretty big job should it fail. All depends on how many miles you put on it and plans on keeping it. But a new SC with a 57K? Not me.

Whenever we replace the supercharger in our shop we always replace the water pump. It's too much work to skip on or have to do a short time later.
We do only use the original MINI pumps as we've had too many times we had to warranty aftermarket ones, and the original ones carry a 2yr warranty.

Question, with the supercharger removed for oil service, should I mount the new WP to the SC and then hang it back on the engine or should I hang the SC and then install the new WP on the SC? Thanks for your help!

We always install the water pump on the supercharger then put it all on as one part.
