PTO Gears are bad! :°(

So, this past weekend my son and I pulled Stella's supercharger off to do an oil change on it. Well I pulled the water pump off and when I did I noticed that the shaft was wiggling. I thought, well, that can't be good. I removed the drain plug and not only did no oil come out but tiny shavings of metal came out. We removed the cover to find nothing but more metal shavings and rust. Both gears are worn and the bearing to the water pump is shot. Dang!! I have done a little research and have found everything from I have to buy a whole new supercharger to buying the gears and bearing and "just replace" them.

What are my options here?

To my understanding, the options you listed are the ones you have. MINI, for whatever reason (probably a money aspect), looks at the supercharger as a consumable, like breaks, clutches and dampers. Somewhere on here, there was one very industrious soul who caught the gear ware before things got too bad and pulled the gears off and turned them around to try and get more use out of them. I am not sure that I would recommend doing that. I wouldn't do that on my car. Good luck. I am not looking forward to when my SC gives up the ghost.

Replacing the bearing on this s/c takes knowledge and a touch. If I attempted that I would have a plan B. Or get a line on someone who might teach me.. Might be able to figure it out but I think some of the more successful shops are applying custom parts to it to deal with wear.
Good luck

I'm thinking that there is a new SC in my future.

I would suggest just going with a new supercharger as the price is right now and you have no worries of failure

I just placed my order with Detroit Tuning. Should be on the car by next week! It's a rebuilt SC but with the 2 year unlimited mile warranty and hardened upgraded gears I'm hoping to have years of carefree Mini fun!!

That sounds like a good plan. If you're confident in your abilities, I would consider pulling it apart to port and polish the innards. It's the only thing I *didn't* work on and I somewhat regret it, though I was apprehensive (due to lack of knowledge) about pulling that apart.

Great time to gasket match and port everything while it's off the car!
