Just bought my Mini about 2 months ago and occasionally after I shut it off the fuel pump continues to run.....It always quits after I start it back up and shut it off again....What causes this?? Do I need a new relay???

Are you able to pinpoint the sound location?
Sometimes the Aux Water Pump will run briefly after shutdown to cool turbo bearings....
Sorry yeah should have been more specific....I'm not familiar at all with these cars (need a service manual)...I assume it is the main fuel pump, the sound is coming from the rear passenger side...I haven't really left it running to see if it shuts off (I assume it will since its not something that runs every time I shut the car off)....Just trying to pinpoint the problem and address it....
I bought one off of eBay and was disappointed.
It was mostly 1gen manuals. Some TIS stuff mixed in and a 2nd gen supplement.
The seller offered to refund the $10 but I didn't want waste my time sending it back.
I need the full TIS for my 2011 JCW.
I gave up.
If you go to our site under MINI and click the tech info (tab at the top) and then select the R56 articles you'll see a bunch of free sources that you can use to troubleshoot or fix things on your R56. They're pretty useful if you don't want to buy a Bentley Manual HERE. You might be able to find a used one floating around in the marketplace. I see them pop up every now and again.
MidwayMountaineer, there is also a vacuum pump that runs at certain times in order to check the fuel tank and EVAP vent system for leaks. I have heard odd sounds coming from the right rear quarter panel, in front of the wheel, at times after shut-down. It is just the vacuum pump, doing checks for leaks. It may happen just after shut-down, or may wait to run the test. Does it sound like a series of an electrical pump running, then shutting down? That is what I have heard when the vacuum pump operates. Scared me at first, but most cars since 2000 or so have it. Some are more noticeable, some less. MINI's being as small as they are, pretty sure you will hear it, especially given the location. EVAP tests will only run when fuel level is between about 3/4 and 1/4 tank. See if that coincides. I am willing to bet that it will.
I have a 2008 Mini Cooper S convertible and noticed this hum coming from the left rear end when the car is off and the key out of the ignition. I have pulled the fuel pump relay from under the hood and replaced the 6yr old battery. The only way to make it quit humming is to pull the 20 amp fuse from under the dash. Any ideas what it could possible be? Ignition switch or the ECU?

Sounds like a short or the pump is bad. You have an R52, not an R57(Gen 2 MINI with the HPFP). That system does not have the HPFP, you have a short in the system.
I bet the Relay is bad or the fuel pump needs replaced as its locked on. Please post in the R52 area so people dont get confused with the R56.
